Rumered Oil Consumption Probs

Whats the deal with some people burning oil too soon? Anyway to avoid it? Has anybody experienced this?

I think it is just part of the break-in process combined with the thinner oils now being used. After 7000 miles I found the consumption really reduced, but I switched to 5w-30 by that time on my car, so I don't know what the 5w-20 would have done. But in most cases your consumption should drop after the first couple of oil changes (depending on how long your drain intervals are).

my car burned a full quart in the first 1000 miles...
the next 3000 miles i did not burn a drop of oil...
just a part of the break-in process...

ps: i break in my cars extremely hard- i was at the track with the temp tag still in the window- some may disagree with this but it's always provided me with a faster-than-average car, factory freak if you will.

Im more a conservative driver so I'm hoping I wont face this prob. At the time of the deal i got the "honda care" warranty thrown in, so i pretty much have to follow the book on service (to not void the extended warr.) Should I wait till 5000 or get it changed sooner?

nearly 1 qt every 1.5 k need to go to honda to adress this. could it be i redline too much? who else beats there cars around?

You know, I've got 2000 miles on mine and haven't checked the oil once. If the motor blows, I'll print out the oil consuption threads on this site, tow my car to honda and wait for them to fix it. While I drive around in a rental at their expense. I wish we could pay extra for the installation of the type-s motor though. Installed by honda techs and all. I shouldn't have to worry about it, its a new car. When I hit 6 months or 5k I'll take it to Honda and have them change the oil.

Just did my first oil change after 3800 miles. Burned about 1/2 a quart. Just about normal.

3500 miles so far. Have used about 3/4 quart.

I do find this unusual. Does anyone know if the RSX people report the same anomaly?
