It was very easy and only took about 5 minutes. I didn't like the stock knob and rubber boot. (reminded me of the those old school Hurst shifter boots that were popular in the '70s)

inlinefour.com has both the boot and knob, they were left over from my 99 Si, I think they were like $40 a piece.

Shift knob is okay, but the boot is, well, kinda, like, mmmmm, nope, stock boot is much better then that thing.

Only my opinion, what you like is what matters.

p.s. The type of shifter we have is better with a boot like we have. Oh and the UK Type R is like ours too......much better then the leather bag. Leather thing looks like........no comment.

Hey man I think it looks cool, a little bid of old school right? Like magus said, it matches your steering wheel.
Neat way to be different http://www.ephatch.com/forum/images/icons/icon14.gif

Thats a sweet shift knob too. Hey know what would be cool? Using that red stitched shift boot with the stock shifter, it would be even more red stitching! :D

I think it looks extremely tight. Nice job! I was looking for that style shifter when I bought mine, but I couldn't find it. Guess I didn't look hard enough. :)

I was planning to do that. But now that I see it. I change my mind ( no offence ). I thing the rubber one looks pretty cool.

What do you use to make the boot stay up?

I always carry a stripper in my passenger seat to stroke the boot so it stays up;) But seriously, I put a rubber bushing under the boot that keeps it pressed against the knob. BTW this will also work with the stock rubber boot if you swap out the stock knob with a billet style. You can get one from any auto parts store just find one that fits tightly on the shifter rod.

It's original though.

dude, can you post up how you got the damn center console out? I think that it just pops out, but how the freak did you do it?

You gotta be a little "daring"... I discovered this as I was installing my short shifter!

Hold down shift boot at the chrome collar and pull down. Unscrew shift knob and put it aside.

Remove console cover by pulling up from the bottom to release the lower clips and pull up from the top to release the upper clips.

While being gentle not to bend the silver plastic, wiggle the plastic side to side & up and down (this is where the daring part comes in) and you'll gradually have the thing off.

G'luck.
