No, it's not what you think,

I'm installing an aluminum knob that's an option from the 5-speed rsx. What I'm going for is the CTR look without the semi-rice of having a six-speed shift pattern on a five-speed car.
The problem is that the knob attaches fine, but the rubber boot just hangs there. The CTR shifter doesn't have that silver ring under it's knob. I've attached a picture of the part I think I need. I basically have two questions: Can I buy the CTR boot/dash assembly and just pop it in? If so, where? Also, is there anyway to mod our existing boot/dash assembly?

Thanks again!

After 3 days, i am strating to hate the rubber shifter boot, looks like a CV Joint boot. is there a way to get a leather boot there? The only ones i have seen come with a square bezel for the regular civic, but not the round bezel like we have.
also, if i got one of the square ones, is it possible to remove the trim from the stock boot and transfer to the leather boot. I am not going for the colored boots, just a simple black leather boot.

I think he wants to know if he can take a square/rectangle shape boot and shape it into a circle.

I believe you can. Someone posted earlier that he removed 3 screws from the accordian style boot and carefully inserted the square/rectangular shaped boot.

you mean 26.95 ;)

as for making the shift boot stay up, I made mine stay up by using a 1/4" thick washer that was a small enough diameter to keep from sliding entirely down the shifter. So I smashed it inside of the silver piece that holds the shift boot. So since the washer doesn't go all the way down the shifter, it keeps the boot up.

I bought a fancy "E'' shaped washer that keeps it up but the silver part wouldnt go back..its okay but i still want a new boot

Thanks guys! I've ordered the j-spec CTR shift boot, I'll be sure to post pictures of the install for all of y'all. As opposed to modding, I may as well get my first JDM part. BTW, options auto has really expensive shipping, 10 bucks for PRIORITY. I went ahead and bit the bullet, and I'll keep y'all informed

I had to solve the same problem when I got my (crappy) shift knob. I left the shiny plastic ring attached to the boot, and put a tie wrap around the shift arm istself, just under the black plastic clip in the top of the boot. This holds everything up, and it has a pretty clean look to it. I had to shave down the inner edges of the shiny plastic ring where it meets the bottom of the new knob in order to get it to look right (no gap).

Hey guys I just helped a friend from work install an acura accessory knob. It's a red one that looks like the dc sports knob, only it says "RSX" on top. It includes a snap on ring with the prongs to cover the top. Imagine the ring in 02SilverSiHB's pic on top of our silver ring. I kept the package for the ring and it has the part #08999-BAK-100 and description "Shift Boot Adapter". I just tried looking the part up on the popular Honda parts sites but it's not in the database. So maybe someone who works at Honda can get it ordered...

Hey SubliminalSI, that's the stock boot with the silver ring shaved all the way down, isn't it?

That washer looks like it's doing it's job pretty well. Also, where did you order that skunk2 knob, and how much?

Those of you who have modded the stock boot,

*how do I take the stock boot OFF?*

It's drivin' me nuts! I've heard references to 3 phillips screws, but haven't seen them anywhere.

Thanks!

Take one hand and wrap it around the silver piece. Then take another and wrap it around the shifter. While keeping the silver piece still, turn counter clock wise with the shifter and it will come undone. It's either counter clock wise or clock wise, can't remember. It's basically a little notch that kinda screws in to the silver piece and shift knob, but it only takes like half a turn at the most.
