View Full Version : Some people have been pming me about how I kept my boot up with new shift knob....

So I took some pics. Sorry, some of them are outta focus. I just got this digi cam, so I had it on the wrong setting, but still you should be able to see what I've done.


Here's the shift boot sitting freely:

In my hand are the two things I used to keep the boot from falling. The medal thing is a spacer washer. It's about 1/4 thick I guess. I had a bunch sitting around in my garage. The black thing is a rubber washer...I think it's used on injectors :) can't remember.

Here I am putting that medal piece inside the silver piece of the boot. It just fits in:

Now I pushed it in all the way...this keeps that piece from falling down, there fore keeping the boot from falling down:

Now I'm putting that rubber piece over it, so that when I screw the shift knob on, it will blend in with the nut that comes with the shift knob and hide the medal piece from being seen:

And now it's finished, the rubber piece looks a little unleveled, but that's because I was in a hurry to get these pics up :) :

just take a piece of elictrical tape and rap it on the inside will hold up fine

Thats exactly what i did with the shaft. Washer and gromet great combo.

Anybody know what kinda washer i should ask for when I go to home depot?

Maybe a spacer washer? I think that's what it's called.

virtually any washer works.
