well it was simple enough. Add Mobile 1 10-30 and filter. pinging goes away. The problem was contaminated oil.

Now i can rev happily to an idicated 8.2 k rpm (7.7 actual).

well i had pinging on one occasion out of 20+ runs over 6.8k so i guess that is acceptable. perhaps some of that crap oil was still louging around. ill keep you guys posted ok?
laters and happy reving.

btw did u guys notice the revs go all the way to the 30 mph mark? thats like dam near 8.2 k so my tach must be really off. are you guys having the same problem. ps where can i get a shift light installed in orange county/ LA/ san diego? any good non scruplous shops?

what was wrong with the other oil, shouldn't have too much effect on detonation, what was it contaminated with ?. I guess the Mobil1 is a bit less volatile when the pcv system introduces crankcase vapours into the manifold. Maybe get an oil catch can installed. I would suspect your gas to be more of a problem though, probably contaminated fuel making things worse too.

This car appeared to have excessive oil comsumption. Oscar Jackson recommended his Honda dealer do an oil consumption check. I supported a switch to a full synthetic.

Oil contamination in the combustion chamber will lower the octane rating of your fuel. It appears that this was the case, causing the engine to ping.

I dont what you guys are talking about but I have a apexi rev/speed installed and according to the reading strait from the rev wire the cars fuel cut off kicks in at 7100 not 6800.

ps. grounding wires would help car dearly through the units volt meter you can see the power loss when turning on lights or moving window/ Try holding the both window controls up and you can see the revs drop.

the tach on our car will go to like 7000 rpms, but my autometer tach goes to 6800 to 6900 rpms. i tried shifting at 7100 on my aftermarket tach, and i was never able to reach that high, hit fuel cut off. as far as idle and mid range rpms go, the both have the same reading

i double posted because i tryed to delete this post and it wouldnt let me/ so what the hell/ as for the redline my rev speed shows different redline readouts in different gears /people have sed that dynos have proven redline at 68 but thats in 4th gear so that doesnt prove to me shit/ ill try every gear tonight and see what it reads/ Im not trying to say that my rev speed is perfect but like you siad I love conflict/ for all I know it could be reading wrong to/ When they dyno a car how do they read the rpms/ because for all we know that could be generalized

The redline is the fuel cut. been covered. Aside from that, the gear you run on the dyno has no effect where the cutoff occurs. Most run on the dyno in 3rd to help eleviate the stress posed by the drivetrain on the engine. (mechanical advantage)

The fuel pump pick-up is not completely submerged when you are extremely low on gas. You are sucking in air along with whatever fuel makes it. This leans out the fuel. The fuel pump is cooled by being submerged in fuel. Over a period of time, running extremely low on fuel a lot will eventually burn out the pump.

Don't let the gas run that low!
