I don't know yet if I'm going to have to sell my Ep yet or not, But last night, after a week of driving 65-70 between work and back, approx 22 miles ea. way, I got the itch to open my Ep up again. Well it Friday and Im in route home, i hit my favorite stretch of open highway, no cars ahead or behind me for about 1/4 mile. I am already crousing at 80 mph, when I kick down to 3rd and open her up. I broke the mile marker and kept into it, where I saw what appeared to be a man on the east bound side of the highway appearing to aid a broken down car, I noticed this at approx 1/8 of a mile to him, slowed immediately, when OoooH Nooo!!!!! It was Highway Patrol on a motorcycle, no parking lights on or anything, hiding in one of the cut outs on the center divide. I must have been at 102-105 when i initially passed him. I watched him get onto the highway quickly as I tried to slow down with the (E-Brake) no luck , not fast enough. I did not wait for him to put the red light on me, I just pulled over to the shoulder. Had everything in hand , lisence , reg, ins ect... told him I knew I was flying, and just wanted to open my car up very politely, I did not have my seat-belt on , and my car had no front lisence plate, he observed both infractions, yet only gave me the ticket for 80 mph in a 65. damn it I could have gone to jail last night, And this is my first ticket in 9 years of driving!!! The deal is I pay out my arse in rent, and my Insurance on my Ep runs me $275 per month!:'( if this goes up $1.00 I cannot afford it, How much do you guys think my ticket will run me, and how can I not have my insurance co. know about it?

any help gladly appreciated, as I will have to know soon weather or not to sell my Ep or not?

My days of low flying are over:'(

80 in 65- first ticket in 9 years: your insurance probably wont go up since its only one moving violation. U lucked out cuz if it was 100 then it definitely would go up

Frankly, I think the officer was looking away when I passed him at 102/105 Stealth mode helps a lot! Ya know (stock) mode, i.e. no loud intake, or exhaust system. I bet he hardly heard my Si go by until his radar started buzzing, by then it must have read 93 mph or so, because that is what he said he clocked me at. When I glanced at the speedometer for the last time just as I passed the Highway patrol, I swear it read 100! It has been a hard lessoned learned, and I think it will be a while before I go past 80 unnecessarily. All and All the officer was really cool, he said he really liked my Si , and eluded that the other night he really had a hard time catching a girl on the freeway doing 110. Admit tingly, he stated that the bikes aren

Go to traffic school if you can. It won't go on your record if you do.

you had a pretty cool officer. Just take the traffic school and you'll be fine. No record. no harm no foul. 80 in 65 is no biggie. you'll still have to cough up the $$ for the ticket/traffic school but u have time to prepare

Dude I wouldn't worry too much. At least he politely lower your speed to below reckless (<20mph over). You made off like a bandit. Personally, I would try looking around for new insurance. If you plan on trying to get the ticket thrown out take an online driving course and go to court. I don't know how will the judge might be at letting you off but then again they do make allowances for having the first offense. How old are you? I have no infractions on my record, i'm 21, and I live in VA my insurance is $88/mth with state farm.

Two words of advice:

1. Hire a lawyer. It'll cost you now, but will pay off in the long run with your insurance.

2. Buy a Radar Detector if you feel like speeding once in a while. I'm not sure if they are illegal in CA but they have saved my ass on the highway more times than I can count. A $200 investment for a decent detector has probably saved me what could be $1000s in tickets from hidden speed traps.

Good Luck and don't give up just yet.

This is an old trick, and I have never done this but a lot of my
friends have and it works fine.
Take the ticket and send them a check.
Here is the catch if the ticket is $83.00 send them a check for $90.00 They will have to send you a check for the extra $7.00 you paid. When you get the check from them rip it up and never cash it. They have to have all of the payment taken care of before they can process the ticket any further, you just ripped up the check so that is as far as it goes. The ticket is paid for so the cops are happy and no insurance company will ever know.

I thought the old trick in Chicago was to wrap a 50 around your license when you handed it to the cop;)

Shop around for insurance. Your first ticket in 9 years and you pay 3 grand a year? That's f***ked up. Seriously it is. It isn't a supra so you can't get slapped with a sports car insurance and it's not a high theft risk. At least not yet. I have a base 5spd RSX and I'm only paying $1100 a year and thats with pretty much at least one speeding ticket a year:D Well, it was untill I bought my Escort 8500 radar detector which has saved my ass at least 5 times already.

Going that fast without a seatbelt?

No offence man, but use some sense.
G'luck with the ticket.

very interesting.. never heard of it before...

but when u get a ticket, they take ur license.. and if you do it that way.. u'll never get ur license back .?

and why give them $7 extra? if ticket is $83 cant u just send $85 instead of $90??

The trick never worked for me in NY. I sent a $2 over the amount payment, it came back with a warning that I should have sent an appropriate amount before the due date or else. They never even cashed the check, sent it right back.

Seriously if you are paying $3000/year for coverage and you have 9 years behind the wheel (given that you have been continuosly insured for the last 9 years), you must live in a ghetto ro something.
When I lived in the Bronx, I used to pay $5000/year on full coverage with no tickets. Comprehensive is what was killing me.

I would go to court and basically try to get the district attorney to reduce the charges to non-moving violotation. Everyone is happy, they get the money, you get no points. If that does not work, then you basically have to tell the judge that it was a bad judgemnt on your behalf, and your record speaks for yourself that you had no tickets in 9 years.
Good luck with courts
