sub level control

I'm considering a Nakamichi 45z HU. Some of the owners of these units wish the unit incorporated subwoofer level control. I'd also be running an amp to some front component speakers using the front preouts. I do not plan to run any speakers in the rear seat location.

If I put a BassLink in the "trunk" fed with the "rear" preouts will the fader serve the same function as a "sub level control"?

You mentioned that you are planning on using a Basslink. The Basslink comes with a "remote bass level control" that will change the volume of the subwoofer. If that is your only concern it should work like you want. But if you want to be able to change the crossover or phase you are going to have to look for a different unit.
