I went ahead and gutted out the rear of my Ep. Seems to be much quicker now!!!I truely believe that we have the CTR body. This car has a lot of bracing already.:p

Incase anyone missed it, here is a breakdown of the rear end components and thier weights:

Jack: 4 lbs

Spare Tire: 26 lbs

Upper deck tray, cargo floor board, and cargo floor matt: 5 lbs (really!)

Rear butt cushion: 9 lbs

Right Rear 60% seat back: 26 lbs (the center shoulder harness hardware is inside there)

Left Rear 40% seat back: 14 lbs

TOTAL: 84 lbs. (give or take a couple)

+ at least another 10-15 lbs of seatbelt hardware and misc.

Also Grassroots Motorsports weighs in the Stock Si at 2615 lbs (September 2002 issue)

So mine should weigh between 2516 and 2521 lbs now.:D

about 100 pounds lighter than my stock ITR

Does that much weight of the back really make a difference?

If you planned to to this, why not get a base RSX?

I'll see about posting picks when Im done taking all the sound deading material out.

I like the Si much better than the Rsx.

Taking all that weight does seem to have a big difference. The car seems quckier, nothing like the R still, but a noticable difference.

If you take someone in your car dont you notice the difference in performance of your car? Its the same with taking out all the stuff in the back.

Out of the 2 years I had the R only three times that I can remember did someone use the back seats. My friends and I usually take our cars when we hang out together, and if not we usually only ride 2 at a time anyway. So my back seats are just added weight I dont need.

You sure that they weighed a bone stock Si at 2615?? If that's true, then it's great, but Honda quotes it at 2744, quite a difference, no?

If it is really truly 2615, then I'm really happy. People always criticize the Si's quoted weight.

I weigh 135 lbs

The State of Texas says my R weighs 2700, however the 98 spec weighs in at 2595 w/o A/C and my 2001 spec weighed less than a 2001 GSR that weighs 2672 (all from Honda).

So, since Grassroots is a well known autocross group I trust what they say. I would like to find a place where I could go and weigh mine tho:D

Try weighting station for the trucks, they may do it for you when there isn't much trucks around.

A recycling place has scales too...maybe there's one in Mesquite or Dennison.

I agree with the weight removal idea tho, i've been moving lately and had to LOAD up my car with junk. Yesterday i unloaded all the boxes and crap then just kept pulling stuff out. took out the spare/jack back seats and upper deck. Now the car just feels like a russian gymnist who hasn't eaten in all her 17 years of life. ;)

i'm sure i'll reinstall everything shortly, i tend to need a more civilized car than the stripped inside it has now. but for those track days... strip it!

dude...a gallon of water weighs 8 pounds....if gas weighs about that much then a full tank vs. empty tank could change your weight by 50-100 lbs
That might help explain why the grassroots people and Honda weren't in synch with their #'s

<in shock still> What happened to your . . . ! <mouth drops>

Ahh cool.

I need to keep my functionality though.

Extreme EP though! Very nice, very nice indeed. What's next, the dash? Center console? Radio?

How long would it take you (if you had to guess) to strip the back like that, then reinstall everything again? Also, is a stripped interior leagal? I get busted for tint, so a striped interior may make the anal retentive cops here mad.

NemesisITR
03-03-2003, 09:38 PM
A stripped interior wont threaten a cops safety. Dark tinted glass can since a cop cant see if you have a weapon. The only thing that would make it illegal would be removing my airbags and steering wheel. you just need an illuminated dash for night driving, a working steering wheel, brake pedal, gas pedal, wiper control, horn control, gear control, drivers seat, seat belt for driver and parking brake. You can use your hands for your turn and stop signals :D Everything else could be removed theoritically. But im stopping with the rear gutted. I still want some nice things in my car:p

william
03-03-2003, 10:10 PM
how long did it take you to gut most of your rear seating area? Just want to know if its a two hour job, it might be fun to gut my car for a weekend autox session, then put it back together again, just like the other egg, humpty dumpty:D

NemesisITR
03-03-2003, 10:21 PM
it should take you less than 2 hours, as long as your car lets you take it apart;) to take out the back seats you have to pop the bolt cover off the back of the 60 split seat. taking out the seats was the longest for me cause I at first couldnt see how to take them off, and then 1fastminivan said what about this and...... the rest is history:D

william
03-03-2003, 10:35 PM
Thanks man, are there any bolts used to fasten the seats down, that also happen to fasten something under the car (once when i was removing my seats from my old toyota, one of the four seat bolts was used to fasten a brake line bracket under the truck) thanks again for the info, and one last question. Did the car get much louder? thanks:)

Those pics are truely amazing! However much I like the idea of weight loss, I still want some back seats. I'm not hardcore like some of you guys.;)

NemesisITR
03-04-2003, 03:28 PM
The bolts to the seat just hold the seats down, nothing else. And yes it is louder now with the road noise. Doesnt bother me since I got used to it when I gutted my R out.
