View Full Version : Rear seat bench removal

Hey guys, I was thinking of a way we could cut out unnecessary weight by taking the rear seat bench out, only I ran into a problem when trying to figure out if and how they come out.

Anybody have a clue on how to do this?

yikes, tell me my car isnt gonna look that ugly when i take it out, anyways whats holding it in? cant seem to find bolts anywhere

One of my roomates too out his back seats and they weigh around 20-30lbs, remember the seat backs. He doesnt want to have anyone else in his car. :) to each their own I guess.

Removing the seat bench is easy-peasy (9lbs),
Use a 10mm nut driver near where the passenger-side and middle seat-belt buckles connect to the frame. It's not the actual bolt for the seatbelts, but its right near there. Once that bolt is out, grab a handful of the seat from the front and pop it up on the left and right. It feels really light, but step on a scale with and without it, and it comes up just shy on 9lbs. :eek:

BUT youd get WAY more bang for buck by removing the jack and spare (30lbs). ;)

I said 20-30lbs counting the seatbacks.

Yeah the seatbacks measured 26 lbs on the right and 14 lbs on the left. They arent exactly easy to get out, though.

i meant the whole thing, of course i want both the seatback and bench coming out...but will it be unsightly?

If it was me, I would get some carpet from a stereo shop to kind of finish the back off.
