I have a black ep with tinted sidemarkers and i want to have tinted lights like the pic. anyone know if a company sells them or are those tint jobs just custom?

I think those are taillights covers. Some company makes them, but I forget which one. Trippz on this site bought a set off someone. Look him up and ask him what brand they are.

Ok, since the Altezzas are out of question ;-) I think I'll go for smoked tail lights like these:

It's just a "smoking" service not new tail light covers...

I like those smoked lenses a lot. A few people on the board have smoked their bumper lenses. I wonder if you could do the same for the taillights.

I speak some german, but it does only say that it fits Civic's from 2001 including the CTR. I don't know anything about the possible differences between the euro and the USDM bumper... Anyway from the outside USDM grill just the same as in CTR, only SI-badge -> Type-R-badge...

Looks like my car by the end of next week, provided that a local hobby shop has the paints. I didn't know that it could look that good and be that simple.

I'll take pics & stuff, too.

Sprayed mine this past weekend with VHT nite shade. Very easy and cheap mod that IMO looks clean as hell. Ill be spraying the clear coat on them this weekend.

Jeeeeez, that looks good. I've got a couple questions before I either chicken out or do it myself --

Are the lights significantly dimmer?

Do the reflectors still reflect at all, or are they now pretty much useless?

fsugatorbait
08-26-2003, 07:30 PM
Actually the lights arent that much dimmer during the day, only about a 20% decrease in out put and there is also some reflection as well. All in all very pleased with the outcome.

Where did you pick that paint up? I went to Schucks and found nothing like that.....

BarracksSi

What's Shuck's? lol.. I'm on the other coast, so I don't know that name.

A well-equipped hobby shop should have them, especially one that deals heavily in model and R/C cars. It's simply model paint, not automotive stuff you'd get at a car parts store. Still, it should be reasonably durable, considering the abuse that R/C car bodies go through.

im pretty sure you can buy tint film spray, but the bad thing is, if they get knicked, youve got to take it all off and restart

Does anyone have any pics of what (lightly)tinted tails look like on the Satin Silver? If not, can the pic of the black one be chopped?

i would love to do this but does ne one no the law about tinted tails in GA also i think that one coat would be sufficent or even to very light coats. also fsu did u do two light coats or two heavy coats. a heavy one with do about the same as maybe 3 light ones. clear coat is a must bc it looks so much smoother with the clear coat.

The guy with the Audi used Testors model car paint -- www.testors.com

Lacquer window tint (http://www.testors.com/catalog_item.asp?itemNbr=1243)

And, click here for a look at Georgia's vehicle codes (http://www.s10forum.com/forum/showthread/t-33750.html) . It's a start, but Google can find a lot.

This is probably a retarded idea...Does anyone think that this spray on tint could be used to paint the mudflaps, as well?

I think that a single coat would still work, while it would not really diminish the light output. The best part is that it is easilly removed if you mess it up or you don't end up liking it.

ps: i didnt read the whole thread.. sorry.. but im at work

They're just stock taillights painted with model car window tint, then covered with model car clearcoat.

The stuff is actually probably really durable -- it's intended for use on R/C car bodies, and those get smacked around pretty well.

Dig around on the Audi owner's how-to and some other links posted in this thread, and you can get to 'em pretty easily. Or just go to www.testors.com and look for window tint & clearcoat.

Probably the least expensive looks/cost mod I've seen yet (well, apart from getting hail damage and having insurance pay for a new paint job.. lol).
