When one is talking about assorted hoses, be it kevlar or braided stainless; what is the exact dimensional differences of -3AN, -4AN, -6AN, etc.

And what does the acronym AN stand for?

I know what the difference in line *looks* like, but after googling around for quite a while, it seems as if nobody has an exact definition of the measurements or what the acronym stands for.

Which leads me to believe not a lot of people know, or everybody knows except me. :)

To the best of my knowledge the AN is just a specific type of fitting. I don't think it really stands for anything. And the -3, -4 and so on is the size. I believe it's in sixteenths. Like 3/16", 1/4" and so on. Hope maybe this will clear things up a little.
