Need Advice on Painting Engine and Tranny

My motor with tranny is out of the car so I figured what better time to paint it than now.

I just want to paint them the same color as the orginal, like a flat silver

Has anyone ever done this?

I've never painted anything b4 so any advice or tips is much appreciated.

hmm interesting idea. in my opinion i dont think it's worth the effort, but it is a interesting idea and i hope you get it done.

If it's fully disassembled bead blast them first and then paint.

If it's together use a wire brush and brake cleaner.

The paint is rustoleum 2000* hi temp flat aluminum spray paint available at your local autozone

Primer is not needed and just make sure its completely dry b4 you paint and that its at least 70 deg

Dont waste your time with that cheap ass Dupli=color crap for the engine. Go onto Eastwood's site and check out their aluminum engine paint. http://www.eastwood.com/ew-aluma-blast-set.html


We stopped blasting the used disassembled blocks, I have yet to see a block that has been blasted and then cleaned, not have some very fine blasting debris in the oil passageways no matter how it was cleaned or for how long it was cleaned. We will steam clean the assembled engine and then seal up the few avenues to the inside, then blast it, and finally tear the engine down. This also keeps the shop significantly cleaner as well.

is protection up to 250 deg F enough?

More than enough, let the engine surface get above 250 degrees and you have alot more to worry about than the paint peeling off, LOL

It will be fine, they also have a Titanium colored engine paint with a slightly higher temp rating.

If I dont have access to a bead blaster or a steam cleaning device

are there other things I can use to prep the block and tranny for paint
