DIY: How to change cabin air filter (easy)
-
very good write up!
I just have to add, it would be BEST to NOT let the glove box hang wide open by those two arms that are connected to the tabs.
The two plastic arms (that are connected to the tabs which are bolted in) are strong but, any good jerk or bump and those arms will snap in two. At that point, the only real way to fix it would be to buy a new glove box. (because its part of the mold for the glove box)
I had the experience of breaking one. Ghetto-rigging it was not easy. :D
-
great write up! extremely easy maintenance for anybody to do... and just a thought, these newer diy's have much clearer pictures haha keep it up guys.
-
nice write up. :thumb: reminds me that i have to change mine out.
-
Very nice!. i have never changed mine in 100,000 miles
-
nice write up mang.....i need to get on this soon
-
yeah... my ac used to smell like dirt. So changed the filters and they had like a half pound of dirt in them.
-
Napa was the cheapest place I found the filters.
-
Finally changed mine today after 50,000 km's and holy crap.... full of shit. Bugs, leaves, dirt.... lol completely black.
-
This write up is 100% dead on. Good job on it.
-
Yeah I had to change mine a few weeks ago. It started smelling a bit funky in mah car, so I checked these out and sure enough, after 28K miles, they looked a like ass.
-
Subscribed... been looking for that little guy so i can change him thanx
-
thanks for the DIY and the clear pics. makes me feel like a honda tech!
-

lol, I'm surprised you have any air coming out of your vents...changes mine @ 45000KM and they were horrible.
-
:mmad: I changed mine at 15k and they were horrible....totally dirty and clogged.
-
this is another thing I need to replace. i have 88k and have not replaced it yet. I bet my filter is hella dirty and clogged.
thanks for the write up..
-
nice ill do it this weekend
-
i've never changed mine.
If i do I think i'm gonna ooze it with something nice smelling.
-
This is actually one of the easiest replacements ever...more easier than changing your engine oil...
-
...
So i just called honda and they said 68.00 for the two filters....anyone know why they are THAT much, and what will I be sacrificing by spending 20 at a local autoparts store?? Any cheap recommendations---ie, well working, new rental car smelling filters??

thats wayyyy too much for those filters. You can find them for like...20 bucks total from online dealers. or other places. search around. :)

Did this today - went to Autozone and bought some Bosch filters (part P3711) for $25 (two come in a box). Took about 5 minutes to do (took so long because I was unfamiliar with the little hooks that hold the glove box in place). The Bosch filters look exactly like the OEM ones - I bet Bosch is the OEM manufacturer.
-
Actually if you look carefully on the Bosch filters they say "micronAir." micronAir makes it for Bosch. But it's the EXACT same as OEM Honda filters. That's the way to do it -- Autozone, Kragen or Pepboys. Kragen was a bit cheaper for me. But still much better than the ridiculous amount dealerships want to charge.
-
i went to my autozone, and they wanted $30, and it was just one! i said F that and i cleaned them out best i could myself. they are not perfect but 100 times better. i cant believe how terrible they looked:jaw:
(50k on my car)
-
I did this once b4 and got a new filter the other day but only got one..
I changed one today and I will have to goto honda for another.

honda canada quoted me 85 dollars just to replace one......
i went on ebay bought the service / shop manual.......best 12.50 i ever spent.....and found it in the manual
i bought mine off ebay "TYC" is the brand name for 35 dollars shipped to my house......and it came with two
it was quite obvious that it was never changed......it was darker than the pic below and there were a bunch of leaves caught in the filter.....
this job was so easy i had 5 beers (canadian beers) and a couple shots of tequila in me and it still took me less than 3 minutes...
IMPORTANT!!! (TAKE YOUR TIME PUTTING THE FILTER BACK IN)
its a little finicky to get back in (partly because of the 5 beers) but once it lines up perfect it slides right in.
CHEERS!
-
I think I need to change mine never done it yet.
-
Nice write-up. I just changed mine. Damn, they were filthy.
-
Good write up. This reminds me, i need to change mine out.
-
so is there a right up for the filter on the right side?
-
It's the same as the left. You remove the left and the right comes out. Then just put it back in reverse order. Very easy. ;)

Same here, if you buy it online and pick it up, they give you 10% off too.

What you think the Tequila didn't have any effect?
I pulled my wife's filters from her 07 CRV with only 26,000 miles and they were filthy, I can only imagine how dirty mine are after 108,000 miles and 6 years.....
