Garage Door Opener revisited - no soldering!!!

OK, I got mine done and it looks great, mostly due to my week-long search to find the best fitting button for the blank spot:

It comes in black or red and is about the same size as the s2k engine start button.

It would be nice to not destroy your garage door opener entirely like I did, so here's what I figured out:



Every opener is different, but this principal should work with most of them, if you are curious and persistent. You'll need a couple of feet of wire to get it to the glove box.

I will try to get a pic up tonight, but no it doesnt light up. There might be one out there, but most of them are too dinky to look right in the blank spot.

That should work with a double-A type battery too.

how does the button stay in? tape? or does it just pop in? it cost more for shipping than the product itself..im still thinking about it...hmmm.....

There are some little plastic 'fins' on the sides behind the flange. You have to trim them a tiny bit with wirecutters or a knife, but they're very soft. After that, it just snaps right in, no tape. But if you trim too much, some tape might be needed in back to hold it still... mine wont even rotate.

If you call them to order, you can get them to send it us mail a little less.

i just did this...one question for those of you who have them. does it take a couple tries to get the garage to open/close?

plainol2k2si - it shouldn't make a difference. If your remote wasn't sensitive to begin with, it probably won't improve or degrade with this mod. I'm not sure if you did it using BlasTech way or my soldering way. Maybe that makes a difference.

In my case, my remote is located in the glovebox. When it was on the visor, I have to be literally on the up slope of my driveway to activate the garage door. Now, I can open it just before the turn in. So, it actually got better.

You can actually hold down on the button and see if that helps.

Mine did decrease in range a bit by moving it from the dashboard tray into the glove box, but it still opens the door in plenty of time for me to not have to wait in the driveway.

you could probably find a way to run the wire past the glove box, over to the space by the mirror and up onto the dash by the passenger's side, then up to the visor and get some good range.

As for the remote itself, the switch in mine was dying (5 yrs old), I used to have to mash it real hard for it to take. I used a jumper wire to solder the switch into permanent "on" (taping wasnt tight enough for it), so the modded unit works better than ever for me!
