    Made Engine Damper

I saw the 5Zigen(?) and J's Racing Engine Dampers and decided to make my own. It only cost me about $15 and it seems to work well. It is a bit crude compared to the others, but I will have to see how it holds up to really compare it.

I am too poor to buy the right parts, so I have to figure out how to make them myself.

Hmm.. Nice... is that a shock or something? Can't really tell from the pics. The 5zigen and the J's both have shocks abosorbing the engines movements.

It is actually not a shock, it is a piece of 80/20 which is essentially extruded aluminum, but I did use some thick dense rubber grommets at the firewall to absorb some of the shock. I have to admit it is a bit rough when you start the car, but otherwise the car seems to run close to normal. As far as acceleration, it definately helps a bit.

Is that what this is? They are selling this on www.jdmhondaparts.com for $190 and I always wondered what that was. What is it suppost to do, is it worth it???

Do a search for engine damper, torque dampener or engine dampener. you will find out that it limits the movement of the engine. The shock seems to be mainly for comfort while starting the car. If you have hard engine mounts or inserts I would doubt that this product would be usefull.

Man, that looks terriable. No offense but hope it doesn' t damage your car in some way. Like ripping out of the firewall or whatever it's mounted to. There is a reason why a small dampner costs $200, the amount of R&D that went into designing it so it works in tune with the actual model of car:'(

it looks like you fabricated an aluminum spark plug cover, then attached an arm from it to the firewall.
is that basically what you did?
i never understood what these dampers were supposed to accomplish.
they supposed to stop the engine from rocking and how does that increase performance?
