    Check out my new toy

Well yesterday I treated myself to an early xmas present. I got an Escort Passport 8500 radar detector. I hotwired it into my car. The reason I hotwired it is because on my base you aren't allowed to have these so this way it is hidden. You wouldn't even know it there looking from the front. It sits just below my front dome light. I can take it off when I dont need it or when I want to use it in another car. Thanks to the write up on K-Series!

    Here are pics!

good deal those are hard to find for less than 299.99 so was it worth it? did you have a detector before? if so how does it compare?

Radar is on all the time right? I dont think my radar detector has on/off button, that could be the problem.

i personally have never had one. my friends did. ive only had it for a day so i cant comment on it too much. i know that it does work because yesterday when i went to get some food a cop parked a few cars away from me and the thing was going nuts. same thing today. i know a spot on base that there is a radar set up and the thing was going crazy again. the detector has alot of options. you can dim the lights on the detector. it has a city and highway setting. you can adjust the sensitivity. it was worth it to me because i have a speeding problem (Hi, my name is Dean and I have a speeding problem. HI DEAN!). I will make the money back in no time.

there is a volume switch on the side of mine. i can turn it off from there. since mine is hotwired into the car it would stay on all the time if i didnt turn it off.

I just found out that my radar detector does have on/off button haha. I suppose i could do that DIY sometime soon. How did you mount radar like that? But that would be kinda bitch to turn it off everytime you get out of car..

I just hardwired mine through the fuse box. So when the car turns on it turns on and when its off the radar turns off. Just run through the door sill and under the headliner so it comes out next to the rearview mirror

i mounted it like that using the mount that came with it. i modified it a little bit.

it is not a hassle because in my case, if i had it ounted on the front window then i would have to remove it EVERY time i came through the gat eon my military base. that would be a bitch. now all i do is reach up to turn it on. much much easier. like i said i like the fact that it is hidden from anybody looking at the car from the outside.

You just need to make sure it has a clear line of site for optimum detection
