Ive never heard about that but it sounds interesting.hehe:D
A honda dealer told me the engine was "detuned" (altho it is the same engine as the rsx) and that the dealership itself could retune it to be 200hp (equal to the rsx). Is that true? How easy is it to do that and how much would that cost? Has anyone tried that?
Ive never heard about that but it sounds interesting.hehe:D
ask the honda dealer how much? and ask him what exactly they do? i bet they charge you $8k and all they do is get typeS engine and drop that sucker in and keep the profit.
amen boi! :D
i dunno about 200HP.. maybe like 170 or like 180hp
It's scary how little the sales guys now about cars (or least my sales guy).
Could be an RSX IM, TB, and ECU, plus H & E to give you more HP and less MPG...
Could be BS, too.:p
The K20A3 IS a detuned version of the A2 isn't it? I don't find anything wrong with what he said. But yeah, you should definitely ask him what exactly they would do to your car before you drop them a check. Making the A3 into an A2 isn't exactly something easy and straightforward (yet).
What're A2 engines selling for on the market? Anyone know? The problem with directly dropping the A2 into our cars is that the typeS transmission wouldnt' drop in. Not sure whether our 5spd is directly compatible with the S motor.
The type-s tranny does drop right in, you just have to do some cutting where the shifter is too alow more room to get into reverse.
The RSX had different pistons and a different VTEC!!!! The vtec in the RSX @ 4500 RPMs opens the lobes fully but our cars the lobes only open partially. And you'd have to get the computer reprogrammed also. The best thing to do is the swap!!!! if you really want that power but if you're gonna do that you mind as well just but the type R engine off of E-bay for 3K.
Ummm can you really get the type R engine off of e-bay for 3K. I thought ours would sell for 1.5k - 2k which would make it well worth it to swap engines (depending on cost of labor). I was thinking they cost alot more than that though.
And you'll find the link that I put on it for the Type R K20
Our lobes don't open partially. When the vtec is not engaged one intake valve is open while the other is opened partially so gas doesn't build behind the valve. When the vtec engages the second intake valve is then opened along with the first.
Well either way, the RSX's lobes never partially open when Vtec hits they go wide open
I have an article where the K20 engine was tested in Japan on a prototype Civic at least one year before production. It was the same k20 as the base RSX. The engine was making 180 hp at the time. So I do believe it was detuned when it got to production. I would say you can get these engines up to 180-185 hp at the crank with bolt-ons, that is about 150-155 whp, which is reasonable.
