that is pretty much in line with the stock output of this car on a Dynojet dyno. Judging by the temps the correction factor was probably zero, so those were the actual numbers being put down at the wheels, not corrected. Pretty good. The stock 99 Si's put down similar hp numbers with about 20 ft lbs less torque than that, so you probably held your own with the clubsi guys hugh.

    Correction was .98

didn't really hang with anybody. there was about 13 cars all together. most of the hatches put over 150... 1 into the low 200's. Just one '99 Si - he did around 153. Turbo miata though put down about 145.

so your actual numbers were higher than the corrected numbers, even better. I dynod at 138 whp and 126 ft lbs torque in stock condition, with 1.02 correction factor, so it is probably pretty similar to your numbers. If it makes you feel any better I've been able to get it up to 150 whp with just a couple mods. , so it doesn't take much to catch up to the "other" guys. he, he.

I mean JSIR's mods.... What's it take to get up to 150whp?

I was looking at his profile, but couldn't see anything.

I don't mean to disrupt this thread, but my mods are K&N Typhoon intake, 2.25" custom midpipe (stock muffler), and HP Header. They got me a 12whp gain in total. I now have a 64m Throttle body but I havent been able to test it for any gains since my last dyno visit. I'm thinking of swapping my header to the new DC one, but not sure if I will get to that in the near future. ]

Hey Dynaspeed, were those numbers you posted with a CAI ?, I thought they were for a stock Si, if it is with the CAI they seem a bit low. I don't know about your car, but my car didn't get any gains until I had all three mods in place, and then the power just jumped all at once. These are strange motors to tune.

    JSIR,

I like your mods. Thanks for all the info; that's real interesting. I'm curious, if you wouldn't mind sharing, how much all that cost? Did you do it all yourself?

What is the total est hp at the flywheel if it's 150 at the wheels?

Did you give up any low end torque, or were there gains through out the entire RPM range?

Sorry for all the questions, but you wouldn't happen to have any dyno run charts that you could post, could you?

Also, maybe this is a dumb question, but can you "feel" the difference in power, and if so, where is it most noticeable?

    Thanks,

    -nate

I drove JSIR's car and it's definately a bit peppier than my car. (All I have is a catback exhaust) He had also tightened his throttle cable, so that gave a better feel too at launch.
BTW thanks Joey for tightening mine today! I had a fun drive to work! :)

well the biggest gains are mostly from the vtec point upwards - so 4700 rpms to redline. The mods seemed to have removed that mid range dip which feels good just around 4000 rpms. The car would actually make more power if I could rev it further the power curve is still climbing strong at redline, if I could get a further 300 rpms or more it would be making 155 whp easily. On my last dyno run we stopped the engine short also, it would have gone over 150 if we pulled it to redline. The car has lost some bottom end power, about 3-4 ft lbs up to 3500, it was worse with a 2.5" mid pipe, I've gone back to a 2.25" midpipe now, so I hope it shows a better bottom end next time I dyno this coming week. The car has defintely lost bottom end , but that is to be expected.

I don't have a before and after dyno plot on paper that compares the stock run to my last run, but I do have one of my last dyno chart which is the 150 whp run. I'm gonna get some new dyno comparison charts printed up when I go back this weekend (I've got over 120 dyno runs between this car and my last car - 99 SiR - saved on the dyno shop's computer !). If I go back to dyno this weekend I may get an idea if the throttle body added anything since my last run, I've never done a run with the larger TB. My car makes 120 ft lbs torque from 3400 rpms to 4600 rpms, then 125 ft lbs from 4700 rpms to 5800 rpms, and starts to drop down to 116 ft lbs at 6700 rpms. It is a relatively flat torque curve. If I can scan it, I may be able to e-mail it to you.

As far as prices go here is an estimate:

    custom mid-pipe - 2.25" with stock muffler - $150 CDN
    HP Header - $170 US
    K&N Typhoon Intake - $150 US
Bored Stock Throttle Body - 150 CDN

Stock numbers were 138whp and 126 torque
Modified numbers are 150 whp and 126 torque.

    hth.

Cool; thanks for the info! Please keep us posted on the dyno stuff--very interesting!

I like your mods becasue they don't really void any warranty items, do they?

Also, have you thought about the thick intake manifold gasket from Hondadata? It's only like $60 and is suppose to add about 5hp.

If you find/get those dyno charts, I'd be very interested in seeing them!

Oh yea, how much louder did the mid-pipe make things? What's it sound like--a low drone now? Or do you only notice it in the upper RPM range?

    thanks,

    -nate

I just found the most recent chart, I edited my earlier post to add some numbers. Yeah none of my mods will void warranty, besides what could really go wrong with the engine ?, not much IMO.

Let me say that I hate loud exhausts, totally hate them, as most of them drone inside the car. With the custom midpipe and no resonator (removed) it isn't much louder than stock inside the car. On the outside of the car it has kind of a throaty groan to it, kind of sounds like the old Probe GT exhausts if you've ever heard one. I like it. My wife doesn't complain either - which is very important. I really like the look of the stock muffler though, so I didn't want to get rid if it, thus the midpipe upgrade is about all I wanted to do.
