    Should I....

    A little about myself:

I'm 32 years old and am addicted to cars. About 3 months ago I sold my 03 350Z enthusiast. I've also owned the following:

    2000 Civic Si
    1996 Acura Integra LS
    1989 CBR600
    4 quads
    2 other motorcycles
    Lexus ES300
    97 Honda CRV
    74 Z-28 w/427 500+ hp (1st car)
    89 Firebird Formula
    93 Firebird SE

Anyway I've been checking out the 2004 Si. I haven't driven one yet but I've sat in one and love the interior. I want a good cheap car and the Si seems like a perfect fit. My questions are.....Should I wait for the 05's? My dealer has the Si's discounted $2K on the window so I probably can get it for around $17K w/out trying to hard. Is that a good deal?

you could get a used 02-03 Si for around 13-15k without looking too hard. the 04 is the same as the up comming 05, if youre going to wait. 04 is different than 02-03 in that they have diff headlights/tail lights/5lug wheels/standard side skirts and an available HFP package.

if you have 19k tho spend you might want to look for an RSX Type-S. the K20A3 motor in the Si and Base model RSX are good engines but the K20A2 in the Type S is better and responds much better to mods.

17k for an 04 is about right. back in 02 and 03 ppl were getting some insane deals, around 15 - 16k NEW

Does the RSX Type S have that Vtec rush like my 00 Si had?

Well, no one knows anything about the 05s yet, really. But the 02-04 is a great year IMO. I love the car. Neither will probably be as quick as your Z but it's nice.
The 05 is said to be going back to coupe. So right now all you have to help you determine 02-04 or 05.. is coupe or hatchback?

I can't wait to see how the new coupe is going to look, but either way I'm a hatchback kinda guy. :)

Also, just think... if you get an 04 you are privledged enough to say here with us! :D

I'm not worried about it being a rocket. I just want something that I can drive year round and have fun in. I like the hatch. I remember in 00 everyone everyone was saying that the coupe sucked and they wanted the hatch. I still managed to sell it for $500 more for it then I payed new. I just want to make sure I don't get an 04 and then 4 months later Honda comes out with a 200hp si. I thought it was 06 when they were moving to the coupe? I haven't heard anything about changes to the 05.

the Type-S does have a notciable VTEC cross over. the i-VTEC employed on the Si and Base RSX is not for performance but for fuel economy. the x-over is at 2200 RPM and help keep the engine emissions down.

i think youre right about the 05's they havent offically been announced, and the speculation about the coupe was a rumor and not yet confirmed. if anything i think the 05's will be left over 04's

Well back a little while ago there was numerous posts in the Off Topic section about how people are hearing 05 is going back to Coupe.

If you want just a cruising or fun car I think it's a great car. Ride is a little bouncy especially in the back, but handling IMO is really really good even at higher speeds. It's not really not a slow car, though. But real fun. I say go for an 04, or even 02-03 if you like the look better, personally I like the stock 02-03 headlights/tails better than 04, though.

If I wasn't so old I'd buy a 2001 ITR that's down the street for sale. It only has 12K miles and he wants $18K for it but I'm a little too old for a 2 foot wing and yellow paint.

if you can get 17k otd, then i'd say its a decent deal. personally, i like the 02-03's better and I know many dealers around this area still have some left over on the lots. you could easily get those for around 15k, maybe even less. just shop around.

First off I loved the car and think it's the best car for under 30K for it's mix of styling and performance but.....

It was my only car (besides my wifes) and that meant I had to drive it year round. 350Z and Iowa don't mix well in the winter. It also has a very punishing ride. I've had dropped cars before but the Z really rides rough but it also hanldes great. There were also some issues with tires that nearly every owner is having problems with but that's a small reason.

The Z was also a lot faster then it fealt as opposed to the Si which felt a lot faster then it was. The Z was one of those cars you could look down and not realize you're going 100. I'm more of a motorcycle engine type person which is why I love the Hondas. It was nice to have all that torque though...More then I few times I just went out in the middle of no where and let'em rip. The S2000 would have been a perfect car for me but my knees hit the dash.

Long story short....The Z would make a great 2nd car to drive on weekends and such but sucks as a daily driver.

depends on what you want to do, the 04 si is going to inpress you with the smooth ride and handling and really depends also on whether you are leasing or purchasing, cause it would be sweet to lease a 04 and get the hfp kit residualized. it takes very well to boost, but the type-s rsx is a pretty sweet engine. like most people here I love my ep3

I currently drive a 91 Z and I can understand what you mean by the daily driver issue, especially with gas in CA goin up and up and the Z only wanting premium. It's no 350Z but I'm sure it has the similarities. I'm currently saving my cash to possibly get an EP myself... but now that I'm hearing a coupe version may be in the works i may wait a little longer to see if any announcements are made. I hope they don't just slap a good engine into the current Civic Coupe. That one is lame.
