I would also like to hear some people's insight into this problem. :D, Anj is this only when you are braking at those speeds or accelerating/cruising at those speeds?
I've been getting this slight vibration in the car between roughly 82--88mph. No vibration before or after this speed. How would I find out whether this is alignment related or brake related?

no braking involved. vibration occurs at cruising too.Originally Posted by BlackKnight 03
how do your wheel bearings look?
This is one of those ?'s that I'm not sure if it ever was answered correctly. After I joined the site almost two years ago. . .A lot of people were getting the same vibration. I checked my tires, bearings, whatever I could think of. After I switched wheels and had different tires on, my vibrations stopped.
So, I'm wondering if you're still running the stock shitty-ass tires.
i don't think he is, i thought he had like 16" rota slips on 225/45 or something..... not 100% sure though
Before you get too worried about brakes, bearings and other expensive parts, I would suggest having your wheels balanced. I used to have a GTI with the same symptoms you're describing. I spent hours looking at the axles, the boots, the joints, and the brakes. Then I balanced my wheels and the problem went away. It's worth looking into, even though it only occurs at such high speeds.
I think it is just your wheels out of alignment too
anj has 225/45/16 avs es 100's, correct me if i am wrong anj
ding ding ding, we have a winner. Just got my wheels balanced, and it went away. Thank goodness.Originally Posted by seandwd
Yes I do have 225/45/16 AVS ES 100s.
Woohoo!! What have I won?!? lol A lot easier and cheaper than ripping apart bearings, huh? I'm glad it fixed it!!
I guess I should get my wheels balanced too. I feel it from time to time too.
How much does it normally cost to balance the wheels?

You've won the gratitude of everyone here.
This is what this EPhatch is all about. Now someone will ask about it again somewhere later in time and won't search it, like everyone, and someone will remember this thread and will pass on this great knowledge.
