Type R gauge cluster

was looking into buying a type R gauge cluster, will my ecu read it just like the factory cluster and have the same miles and trip on it or will it change?

pretty sure the mileage is store in the cluster. could be wrong though. in the words of the great austin powers, "that sorta thing ain't my bag, baby."
