tried to do this installation myself a long time ago, w/o this right up. Didnt realize only 12v power source was needed, i really messed stuff up. took me 3 buttons to realize i was pumping too much power through it( had it run to the main power for starting the car) i also made my own custom wiring harness(which sucked) i didnt know u could use the floppy drive harness.
probably next week im going to attempt another installation. Hopefully this DIY will make everything work smoothly for me
wish me luck
Good luck :). Don't pitch those buttons right away - they may be salvageable. I bought one off of a guy really cheap because he had spliced it in without a relay, put too much current through it, and it quit working. I opened it up and saw this:
I soldered in a few wires to replace the blown traces:
and wired it up... it worked, and has been in the car for 2 years or so now. Bottom line, definitely wire it up with a relay as described above by Blue03Si. The switch can't handle the current necessary to turn the starter motor.
How to properly use Apostrophes
The rev limiter is not meant to be used as a shift light
can you elaborate after step 12 please?
i'm not understanding where you're connecting the power part. where exactly is the cig power?
ok, is this a good buy? they include a bunch of extras and a relay. $86
S2000 engine start button
You could piece it together for half the price, but if you want most of the easy work done then you can just buy it from ebay. I bought one probably from the same guy years ago when I installed the button in my stealth, after seeing the kit I realized I paid about 40 bucks too much, but it does make it convenient.
how much is jsut the s2000 button from honda? anyone know?
will a 20/30amp relay be fine? or should I get a 30/40a relay?
Button costs 37.49 from http://www.handa-accessories.com/s2000-03.html
any automotive 12v relay should be fine. 7 bucks from radio shack
Relay
Then all you need is the misc things, wire taps, connectors, wires.
You can do it all for about 50-60 bucks
dont these come stock? lol mine had one already in it
im a total noob at this. but why do you need a relay? cant you just hooke it up like it does in the DIY?
