Compendium of Boosted EP Info - A Case by Case Study

This thread is meant as a study for boosted EP information.
Not only will this allow us to reveal tips/ideas on performance, installs, or operation, but it will allow us to database any restrictions/cautionary words for different systems for those looking into forced induction.

Please post the following info and update regularly:
(limit one post per user or per system - i.e. post more than once if you had one system and then changed to another later)

    1. Car year

    9. - Bottom middle manifold bolt VERY difficult.
    - Gasket between IM and TB only goes ONE way, big vacuum leak if backwards
    - Belt torque does NOT = Idler pulley adjust bolt torque
    - Use Gatorback belt
    - Deburring of manifold interior with dremel recommended before install
    - Upgrading from street kit, you can modify stock injectors instead of buying RC440 injectors - http://www.ephatch.com/forum/showthread.php?t=43570
Catch can highly recommended for installation - http://www.ephatch.com/forum/showthread.php?t=43586
    10. - Belt can slip at high RPMs (use CRC belt conditioner to help)
    - idler and SC pulleys may not be perfectly aligned causing rubbing on side of belt and burning rubber smell - http://www.ephatch.com/forum/showthread.php?t=43596
    - Walbro fuel pump not necessary but may help some systems - http://www.ephatch.com/forum/showthread.php?t=43536

    4. Daily operating PSI (not max figure for racing)
20-22 psi @9200k (car is NOT a DD)

    5. Oil weight used
    Mobil 1 10w30

    6. Miles at installation
on frame 35k on rebuilt engine 120miles

    7. Current mileage
    36,000

    8. Dynoed horsepower (specify whether tuned or not and where tuned)
    503.8whp & 370ftlbs @20 psi on 93 PUMP GAS!
    400 made @ 6.1k 503 holds from 7.4 till 9.2k
tuned by Brian Fisher @ Inline Pro in Springfield VA
(car would have made more but the turbo shit itself on the dyno )

    9. Issues with installation
HA HA HA where do i begin
lets just say with a Full-Race you have to move ALOT of stuff as well as deleting a few "hippy emissions BS"
    tips
test fit, move components ,test fit, move again
the down pipe will NOT bolt up to a cat back unless you buy a thermal catback or anything ep specific that uses a V band clamp

    10. Issues with performance
1600's cc injectors are horrible for part throttle the car wnats to break up during roll on acceleration (out of boost) and cut out when part throttle boosting
WOT they are fucking money (but at 20psi and 9200rpms they are at a 46% duty) they are a bit over kill and all my part throttle issues will go away when i get re tuned on 1000's and I still will be able to hit 503 on them as well
    but ill have better drivability

    Full-race manifold
the manifold was only designed to spool a turbo and has a tendandcy to creep to almost double the wastegate spring setting
so if you use a 7psi spring it will creep to 12
and the spool time suffers to that point because of the waste gate still opening @7 psi
    11. Any other information you feel is necessary (full mod list not necessary)
full upgraded fuel system is needed i have made a return system with a rising rate fuel pressure regulator to keep the duty cycle down
1600's are at 46% at full boost and 9.2k (so im going to drop down to 1000's to get some more drivability

    12. Which engine do you have (include compression ratio)

-AEBS T sleeves (best sleeves on the market -solid deck)
    -eagle h beam rods

    -Cometic 3mm head gasket
    -micro polished and trued crank

    -rev dual valve springs
-port work done by PORT WORKS in FL

Tuned by Joe (JPAX)@ 8-velocity on a dynojet at 11psi made 290hp can't remember tq

    9. issues with installation:
None really, kinda hard to bolt up manifold with everything assembled, down pipe and all, shit is heavy.

    10. issues with performance:
Nope, just that as you want more power you have to keep upgrading parts. then again thats a given with boosted cars.

    11. Any other information you feel is necessary (full mod list not necessary):
The 290 @11psi was with the turbonetics evolution wastegate and turbo xs rfl bov. The new tune @12.5psi with the Tial wastegate feels way better, boost comes on nice and strong . I'll try to dyno again soon

    12. Which engine do you have (include compression ratio):

Used kit; missing gaskets/cracked manifold. Nothing major

    10. issues with performance
-Idle went to shit...still have yet to find the source (not sure if it has to do with the turbo or not)...
-Wastegate sticks sometimes (thank god for kpro overboost protection)

    11. Any other information you feel is necessary (full mod list not necessary)
Running the stock muffler w/ 63mm piping from downpipe back. I made 8whp/4wtq more by just removing the muffler. Tune also would have netted more power.

    9. Issues with installation

A bunch of issues. You have to move some coolant hoses. I had a few sensors in the way that I had to buy new sensors to move out of the way. All the test fitting and removing of the kit. I probably had the kit on and off 15 times. Down Pipe not meeting up with the exhaust (having to add about 6 inches of exhaust tubing. Other than that time and money.

    10. Issues with performance

There is a little part throttle boost hesitation right as the wastegate is getting ready to open. Before and after the wastegate opens it is pearl.
As everyone has had the problem with full-race with boost creep. I am creeping from 3psi all the way to 11psi @ 8200rpm I was told that a 70mm exhaust would restrict some exhaust flow, but it seems to me that there was no problem with the 1/4 inch less diameter of the exhaust.

    11. Any other information you feel is necessary (full mod list not necessary)

My fuel system is totally overhauled. I have 750cc injectors run from a 255 walbro fuel pump through -6an stainless fuel line. The fuel pressure is regulated by a aeromotive FPR set up to a rsing rate regulator. This allows my duty cycle to be around 67%.

    10. Issues with Performance
To much heat with the 3.8" Pulley, Belt Slippage

    11. Any Other Information You Feel is Necessary (full mod list not necessary)
Heat the always the main issue with the Eaton Roots Blowers. Unfortunately in our cars there is just not enough room to intercool or aftercool it without cutting Nitrous/Methanol is really the only way to cool the air charge and get higher gains. Also, if you upgrade to the 3.8" pulley it would be a huge benefit to pick up the Goodyear Gatorback Belt (Part #4070622) and also the tensioner pulley from the RSX JRSC Kit. This pulley is 2.5" instead of our 2" and will greatly reduce belt slipping with the smaller charger pulley. Other than that, it is low maintainence, easy to install, and a blast to drive if you are looking for some more pep! Oh, you might want more grip on the front tires as well

    5. Oil weight used
Royal Purple 5W-30 (may switch to 10W-30 this summer), Wix filter

    6. Miles at installation
    ~58,000 miles

    7. Current mileage
    67,545 miles

    8. Dynoed horsepower (specify whether tuned or not and where tuned)
211.5/165.9 at the wheels (Mustang dyno). Tuned by Tampa Mike (Mike Amerson) at Total Performance Centers in Mobile, AL 3-22-2008.

    9. Issues with installation
Nothing major, just the infamous reversed inlet casting gasket caused a vacuum leak. I had a car-savvy friend helping on the install, and we finished it in 7 hours, plus 2 hours to find and fix the vacuum leak. The pulley swap (blower and tensioner pulleys) took maybe an hour, by myself.

    10. Issues with performance
The only performance issue I've had is a pesky lean spike in the low RPM range (2-2.5k), just inside the boost columns (not under full boost). It didn't crop up during the tuning session, so I'm trying to isolate it and eliminate it with street tuning.

    11. Any other information you feel is necessary (full mod list not necessary)
-Use Loctite on the four bolts holding the inlet casting to the blower body! At least one member blew up his supercharger because the bolts worked themselves loose and got sucked into the rotors.
-Ditch the POS Dayco belt that comes with the kit. Buy two Goodyear Gatorback 62.2" belts - one to use, one to keep in the hatch as a spare.
-Belt tension is key. Datalog a few runs and tweak the belt tension until you've dialed it in.
-Pay close attention to the rectangular gasket on the inlet casting. I think it's the larger side towards the back. If you have a vacuum leak check that and the TB gasket first.
-Get a Hondata IMG, or something similar (Nextgear, Corsport, etc). It's only $50-60, and you're already pulling the whole intake side off, so go ahead and put it on. Every little bit of heat reduction helps.

Definatly use lock tight on all bolts especially the manifold ones just to be on the safe side. it takes about 5 hours to install so i`d do it on the weekend just in case u run into any snags
