    clutch chatter?

I installed an exedy stgll clutch about a month ago I was wondering if the ticking/fluttering noise that occurs when I let off of the clutch is normal? It only happens when I am going into first from a stop from when I let off of the clutch half way to when the clutch is engaged.

did you use an alignment tool? did you check to see if that bearing was good? torque down all the bolts?

    that is not normal.

yea I used the alignment tool and torqued all of the bolts at a criss cross pattern and used a feeler gauge around the pressure plate to make sure I wasnt torqueing one side down more than another. The bearing was the new one that came with the clutch and when I spun it was smooth with no noises. Once the car is in gear there is no noise and it only does it when I am going into 1st. Other than that it drives perfect.

i wonder since it is a higher "stage" clutch, if that is just what it does. like the energy suspension motor mounts causing vibrations.

does it drive normal? and by that, i mean shift.. how many miles on the new clutch?

I have about 500 miles on it and it works fine eccept for the rattle. I have esmm too I can tell a difference in vibrations with those too. I was just wondering why it would only do it in first? Mabey its because of the load of moving a car that is not moving like putting more strain on the new clutch because of starting from a stop.

i know someone with a 350z that just put in a 6 puck clutch and his chatters bad under the same conditions and his is perfectly fine. I think that the noise you're hearing is normal and I wouldn't worry too much about it

Its an exedy stage 2. I realized that if you engage 1st fast like under a race like condition not normal street driving it does not make the noise. I guess its a sacrafice you have to make with an aftermarket clutch. Thanks for your help guys!

do you know if it is a sprung or un-sprung disc? i friends act 6-puck unsprung doesn't do it , but the sprung version is chatters alot when taking off from a stop. if you are sure that the install is done soundly, i would put my money on this.

It had springs around the center so I am guessing it is sprung

yeah it is. more than likely that is where you are getting the chatter from. the sprung clutch is easier on engagement, witht he trade-off being that little bit of chatter you get.
