Type -s tranny rpm vs 5 speed.

Ok since I didn't really get the answer I was looking for I will make a thread about it even though it has probably been done. I have the a3 with goodies and kpro, I want the type-s trans right now then get the a2 later on. What rpm with the a3 engine and the type-s trans do you run at, at 80mph.

80 mph is 3714 rpms in the rsx-s 6spd and the base rsx 5 speed
    80 mph is 4032 in the ep3 5 speed
they all have the same 5th/6th gear, the difference is the rsx uses a different final drive, it is the same final drive in both the type s and the base though.
so you'll achieve the same rpm's in 5th or 6th if you get an rsx transmission.

The 02'-04' type S uses a 4.3fd. In 6th gear the rpm's are a fair bit lower than the EP3's 4.7fd in 5th gear. The 05'-06' typeS and newer FG2 have a 4.7fd and will see the same rpm's in 6th as the EP3's 5th gear. The optimum gearing for lower rpm's will be the 4.3fd and the TSX/FG2 6th gear.

ok so if i get the 02-04 rsx-s trans, and just throw it in I will see a bennifit on the highway and even more with the tsx 6th. How difficult and expensive would it be for me to do the tsx 6th in the trans with the 4.3 would that slow me down though through the 1/4.

Even with the 4.3fd you may not see a loss as the gear spacing is a little shorter and you wouldnt have that long 2nd gear. The TSX 6th gear wouldnt even come into play on the 1320'. But it will be a much more efficient DD.

I like the way you think my man. So I wont get any slower right? Cuz the close 1-4 ratios. Am I getting what you are saying or making conclusions cuz I want it soo bad. How much all in all including the tsx 6th would this thing cost me so I can start saving my hard earned pennies.

i dont see it making a bolt ons a3 faster cuz you will be doing more shifting in the 1320 i believe, 1-4 vs 1-3.

The extra shift is counterd by the shorter gear spacing allowing the engine to stay in the powerband and not dropping as many rpm's before shifting, It will require perfecting your shifting skills. The 3-4 shift is usually a very easy one to make fast. A higher rev limit will greatly help as well, so Kpro or reflash should be in your future as well.

The stock 2-3 shift is a e.t. crusher.

Now if you add a turbo the 5spd will be quicker.

I am deffinitely not turboing my car, so far I know of not one smog legal turbo. I do have kpro and I rev to 7500 rpm so I don't really know if that rev limit would be ok or how high can the a3 even go stock bottom end wise. Would I bennifit from this mod?
