Money is not an option. Your swap choice?

I will have all my debt paid off in 3 months (car, school loans, cc etc), and I'm going to start saving for a build project. With no debt, and few bills, I can put away a lot of cash for an engine rather quickly. I'm looking for a few key things.

    1. As close to stock as possible.
    2. Reliability.
    3. Fuel Economy.

These things have led me so far to put the K20A in my top spot, even though it costs a lot. I understand the potential of the K24/K20 Franks, and the ease of doing a straight TSX swap, but both of those fall short of reliability (frank) and economy (TSX...20/28).

My idea is K20A/Kpro until I need something else...then Toda cams/valvetrain, then JRSC later if I really get bored with the engine. I know I could have a 'faster' car with that money, but it has to be a car that I can rely on as a DD.

There is almost no conversation anymore about the K20A mainly because the A2 is a cheaper alternative, so with that in mind would you choose the A2 anyway even if you could afford the K20A?

I got easily over 30mpg with a full bolt on k24. The secret is in the tranny. Take a type s 6spd from a 02-04 and put in a tsx 6th gear. If money really is no option then also throw in the infamous 5.0 final drive and really get some good mpg. You could get close to 40mpg I venture to say:eyebrows:. I really vote a tsx swap since it has the best stock bottom end. It has a decent cr and has oil jets to keep the pistons cool. It will look soo stock noone will be able to tell. You can make some awesome power with this engine but then again you want something close to stock so..... Oh and the frank is very reliable...you must be getting it confused with the old ls vtec franks that fell to pieces.

A K20A is sic ass JDM, but not cheap. The closest to the K20A would be the K20Z1(05-06 RSX-S) or you could go w/ an A2.

What's the advantage of adding the TSX 6th to the DC5-S tranny versus the EP3 tranny?

OP: If you're looking for more power from a 'close-to-stock' engine, the k20a2 is it. If you want more power go with a k24. Not sure how different they'd be in reliability but with a good tune I wouldn't be worried.

It has better gearing for NA. and it has a longer final drive too so it makes the gears longer.

You're assuming the EP is my only car :)

I have a dedicated track car. Most cars that are "fast stock" are also not efficient. Besides, I love the EP's looks, and rarity.

I'll look into the TSX engine a little more then. Thanks for all the comments and suggestions!

A main reason people really would go for k20a is those Cali guys have C.A.R.B. to deal with. Come'on 5g's for 200hp. Go to k20a.org and those dudes will school you on power. Don't post just read.

If money is no option, how about we do a C32B swap in the rear hatch, and while we're at it, do a flip flop and switch the drive out back. Renault rally clone???

Get an 06+ tsx k24. Put an RBC on it (ported). Hytech header and 3" exhaust. You'll make around 220-230 with bone stock reliability.

I don't see how a k20a could be more reliable then a k24. You have to rev the shit out of it to make it fast, k24 you'll only need like 7500rpms max. Also, high RPM = shit gas mileage. torque FTW
