found a switch in my car, pressed it, now my alarm beeps at me a lot

So I was rummaging around the driver's side fuse box for a JDM style foot light install and I found a weird wire loom. I traced it to what appears to be a black alarm control unit and a simple press button switch.

I thought it might be a fuel cutoff, so I pressed it and tried to start the car. Not a fuel cut off

but now when I lock the doors the alarm beeps at me, and when I unlock it beeps twice.

What kind of feature is random button that makes your car obnoxious? haha

EDIT: I cant tell what alarm it is, its wedged pretty good up under the dash and I cant get a good viewing angle

i believe it temporaryly(sp) disables the alarm so the valet guy wont set the alarm off. so now that its on the beeps are to let you know that the alarm is on or off wen you hit the buttons

Okay, so before when it didnt chirp at me when I locked the doors, was the alarm disabled? I dont mind being reassured that the alarm is functioning with a chirp, but Im a night owl and the neighbors are complainy.

the beeps just let you know that your alarm is alarmed or disarmed. the stock alarm only honks the horn if you press the lock button twice. I only do that when I'm too far away to hear the doors lock. but yea, just an extra feature. seems like you could turn it off if you wanted.

I dont know what brand after market alarm I have, but apparently it has been in valet mode this entire time The LED indicator is now blinking when the doors are locked which universally means "active" but when I press the button again, the LED is solid, which universally means "valet mode, hit lock button twice to activate"

haha nice to find out now
