I personally like Escort Radar detectors and Belltronics. Escort has top rated detectors if you're willing to spend the dough for them. Belltronics has a lot of radar with the "bang for the buck". With me either choice is good. You should google radar detector reviews and it'll list you the prices and which detector is best at what.

Isn't police radar and radar detector different?

Most radar detectors are useless unless on the highways. If you want something for the inner city use as well, go for a radar plus laser detector.

And is completely worthless, especially the laser detector, if a police officer is running radar properly and using the hold function you will have no idea that he/she is there. Especially with the laser since it only goes off when it hits you and after your speed has already been recorded.

You need to know how to utilize the other traffic around you to get the cop to trigger the radar. If you are the only car on the road, you are at their mercy pretty much.

I usually drive in the middle or far right line. I never drive in the fast lane unless its to pass but then I move back over. Cops here usually have the gunner on the fast lane side and then they have the chaser further down the road waiting for the call. I just go with the flow of the traffic or use a rabbit to follow.

IMO, radar dectectors are a waste of money if you get caught for speeding and the cop sees it then he marks radar dectector on the citation and basically its a automatic conviction no contest. Personally if you just keep a scan of traffic ahead and only speed w/ traffic then you should be okay. As for highway driving I never get in the past lane unless I pass and usually play tag w/ another car all the way home.

When it comes to good radar detectors, you have to buy one of the high end ones. Valentine one>Escort Passport 9500>Escort Passport 8500. Either of those 3 are good, but the V1 will always be best. It's a lot of money, but it is worth it.

i have one and it has saved me a couple of times enough to pay for itself, but i usually try to always have a rabbit or hide in traffic

Saves gas? Not on my ride, I get better mileage at 75 than I do at 55.
