I'm currently running their 5-30 stuff, but I hear the European formula is better, but it only comes in 5w-40. is this correct? are there diff weights for the Euro formula?

The Amsoil is great stuff. The Euro Formula 5w-40 is great for boosted motors, which is what it is really designed for. It can handle the higher temps seen in a s/c or turbo motor without shearing or breaking down as quick. The 5w-30 is fine for an N/A motor.

I prefer the 5w40 Euro formula for spring, fall, and winter time and Amsoil 10w40 during the hottest part of the summer. And no it wasnt designed specifically for turbos, many Euro cars call for a 5w40.

Doug have you seen or read anything bout the new dominator race oil that Amsoil has just brought out recently? I was curious. Been runnin the 5W40 for a few years now and you know it works well.

I use the 5w40 in the EP and in my girlfriend's Audi A3. It's a great all-around oil I think but definitely good to use if boosted. The Euro formula is only the 5w40.

I am dubious about using anything tagged with the "race" moniker on a DD. or even a part time track engine.

"RACE" does not mean it will last longer in a DD situation, usually the exact opposite. Take the typical built race engine, it may have parts that are significantly stronger, but drivability and longeviety suffers greatly.

10-30W is good for supercharged set ups and big NA builds. I used the turbo formulated on a SCK24a2 for 40,000 miles and lost around 3-4whp on the dyno

On a side note incase anyone cares, the Amsoil Manual Trans fluid is the best on the market. My car shifts so smoothly. And i've had them all in my transmission. GM, Penz, RP, Redline, Honda,
