Is that a Yakima rack? Reason I'm asking is, I just pieced together the base rack... after looking at the pictures, it looks like all 4 Q towers are attached to the door jamb. What measurements are you guys using to clip onto the quarter window area?

Also, real quick... If you are using Yakima racks... what bike trays are you using? I'm hoping to find a cheap Viper on craigslist.

Btw, if anyone is wondering... I piece together everything via craigslist/ebay for under $300 (so far)

That wasn't what I was asking. Doesn't matter anymore. Just like to point out that you installed yours wrong. Might want to look at the instructions and pics again.

On the Canadian EP, maybe the US one too, there is actually little dents under the roofline to show you where to line them up. This is where they were designed to go. Secondly, if the foot spacing is not proper, your rack may not hold properly. Over-tighten, and you do damage to the roof line. Under-tighten, and you may come loose (imagine that with a canoe on the highway, I wouldn't want to be liable for hurting or killing someone). Why take a chance by not following the manufacturer's mounting instructions? Trust me, I sold roof racks for 5 years while working at an outdoor store, and have had training by both Thule and Yakima.

edit: Just looked at the previously posted pics. While it might be just fine and not come off, the angle of the clamp relative to the foot is probably not exactly how they were built. I say you're taking a slight risk, but to each his own. Personally, I'd install according to instructions.

I wasn't answering anything to do with your question. I was simply posting links and information for people that need it in order to further help them with their instals. And YES i know i had mine on the wrong way (or the non suggested way). I put mine on that way in order to be able to use the type of bike rack it came with. I didn't have enough money to buy the recommended rack and place it properly, so i tested out my method and it worked. The rack has been off for a while now anyways since its winter and i have no use for it, but as soon as i buy rails and it gets sunny again it will be back on the "correct" way.
