A quick Tire Question from a new guy

I am getting some new tires Is it true I can put somthing a little Wider on my stock rims? I have heard about /205-50-15's Can I run this sizeTire on my stock rims Without messing up my Speedo/Cruise control Ect.

Also what does EP stand For?

that tire size would make ur speedo read about 4.7% MPH too fast. it wouldnt mess up the cruise control. and ep stands for the chassis code of the 02+ hatchie. (ie EF 88-91, EG 92-95, EK 96-00)

Yes you can put wider tires on the stock wheels. Maybe even up to 215/50.

Thanks for the info, I guess what I need to know Is What size tire can I run on the stock Rims That will not affect the speedo? If Not what size Will make my speedo(and I assuming Odometor) Read slower

Hmm... I ain't no tire guy, but...

195 x .6 = 117mm (approximate stock sidewall height)

205 x .5 = 102.5mm => var -14.5
205 x .55 = 112.75 => var -4.25
205 x .6 = 123 => var +6


215 x .5 = 107.5 => var -9.5
215 x .55 = 118.5 => var +1.5
215 x .60 = 129 => var +12


225 x .5 = 112.5 => var -4.5
225 x .55 = 123.75 => var 6.75

So, if you want to get a tire that will be faster than what your speedo says, you need one that is greater than the stock 117mm. So for 205's, get a 60 series or larger tire. For 215's and 225's, get a 55 series or larger tire.

You don't see 55 series tires too much. But Tirerack.com has 28 models of the 205/55's, 19 225/55's and one model of the 215/55's. If you take a look, the 215/55 tires will have the least absolute varience from the stock 195/60's. But Tirerack only has Ecsta 711's in the series.

Bottomline... if you deviate from 195/60's and stay with the 15's, there are no widely available tires that will NOT screw with your speedo's and odometer's accuracy. But, IMHO, that deviance isn't going to be much. Assuming of course you stay close to the stockies dimensions.
