    04-05 steering rack in 02-03

    Hi everybody,
I was wondering if anybody has done a steering rack swap from the 04-05 ep3 to the 02-03? I know that they did an upgrade because the 02-03 is faulty.

How is the 02-03 faulty? Mine has 214k on it with no issues.

I heard about this but I don't think it's really worth it unless you happen to get the parts for free. I know some people convert to the hydraulic power steering unit from a RSX and that sounds worth it due to the added benefits. I've always wondered if the EPS from a EP3 Type-R is any better than the ones from the USDM EP3's

Apex, a LOT of folks have had issues with the EPS rack "grinding" or "creaking".

IIRC it's due to substandard/lack of lubrication in areas where plastic and metal are constantly rubbing.
Leads to premature wear of the parts in question, and a lot of noise.

Hmm i Haven’t had an issue. But as the years pile on lubrication that was applied from the factory cannot be expected to last forever. So i wouldn’t say something is faulty if you just have to regrease it.

    04-05 steering rack in 02-03

I'd say its faulty when it's a pervasive problem that in many cases appeared WELL before such a thing should.
    And it's not a simple re-grease job.
You have to do some real work to get this done.
    Highly annoying.
