    K20A2 oil pump question

Totally out of curiosity and maybe to help other members thinking about upgrading their oil pumps, i have the following question:

What is involved to swap a K20A2 oil pump into a K20A3 or K24A2? Obviously you're going to have to remove the oil pan and timing chain cover, but besides the K20A2 pump itself are any other little parts needed? With the K20A3 is it necessary to buy the K20A2 oil pan also, what about the oil pump chain?

If we could get this info listed somewhere and stickified, that would be great.

Nope, nothing else is needed. Chains are the same length, pans are the same depth. YOu will need a k20a2 baffle plate though. Very good mod if you track your car. A2 pump will allow you to bring it up to 8k and not have to worry as much.

Sorry man, but the Chains are not ther same. The Camshaft timing chains are the same, However the Oil pump chains are not. The k20a2 pump spins 1:1.7 and the k20a3 pump spins 1:2. So the k20a3 comes with a smaller chain due to it's smaller pulley.

You will have to remove the Oil pan, the chain cover. You need to drop the subframe to get the pan off.

You can use a steel pan, However the clearance is really slim, If you dent it, you might greatly reduce the pumps ability to pick up oil. I would do a k20a2 aluminum pan, because they are a lot more ridged.

so the parts are k20a2 aluminum pan (if worried about clearance issues)
    k20a2 oil pump
    k20a2 baffle
    k20a2 Chain
    k20a2 tensioner

are these correcto and does it matter what year type s you get these from?

No, because the k20a2 and z1 are the same, Oil pump/pan wise.

    oh ok
so both k20a2 and k20z1 have the same oil pan and pump and both should fit fine on the k24a2

do you know how much they go for used?

there's an oil passage that you'll need to plug as well. it's the one that feeds the journals for the balance shafts in the stock pump. otherwise you'll just be dumping pressurized oil straight down into the pan.

    This is important.

The oil pumps with balance shafts have an oil feed passage from the block. When you pull off the oil pump, you'll see a hole with a brass reducer in it. You can remove it with an allen/hex bit. Be careful with it because it is brass and is easy to strip out. Once you remove that, there's a "sealing bolt" & washer that you can get from Honda to plug the hole.
