    Rear Hatch Brain Teaser!

Here's the problem: The cable that releases the lock mechanism in my rear hatch has somehow snapped (I know this becuase I had a guy use one of those fancy cameras to look inside). Now i have zero use of the trunk. The worste part is it is closed! I cannot find a way to access the lock mechanism becuase it seems like all the trim pieces can only be taken apart if the truck is open.
Anyone have any tips??? any help is much appreciated! Thanks.

I'm not sure if the key hole is somehow connected with the cable part but have you tried using your key?

jaws of life ftw, that thing can open anything.

on a more serious note I say take it to a locksmith??? maybe they have some experience with this. Worst case you have to cut a hole in the plastic to get to the mechanism.

start at the top of the trunk where the 3rd brake light is. Remove the trim piece and work your way down to the bottom of the hatch. You wont be able to get the big bottom piece off completely but you should be able to pry it open enough to get your hand in and work the latch with your hands.

Pretty sure the handle and key are both connected directly by levers and pushrods, neither actuate the lock with the cable. If those dont work you have another issue other than the broken cable.

Had something similar happen. Ended up having to rip/cut the panel from the hatch to get to the mechanism, couldn't find any other way...

thx everyone, had to buy new lock mechanism ($139!!) inside theres a plastic piece and it broke, totally disableing the lock. Had to start taking the interior trim apart at the top brake light- it wasnt easy. If anyones got a similar problem i can help cause i now know absolutely everything about this lock!

Cheap plastic parts in heavy wear areas FTL. Between locks and windows, I'm wondering WTF Honda was thinking...
