Doors lock and unlock erratically with remote

Whenever I use the remote to lock or unlock the doors, sometimes they do it, sometimes they don't. The driver side door won't lock at all sometimes, even if I try to use the key or manually lock it.... it sticks, but not all the time. It's weird. Anybody have any ideas as to what is causing all of this?

are you using the factory remote or an aftermarket alarm one?

I concur with this. I'd say my drivers side door lock works 95% of the time. But the passenger's side is only about 40%. If I play with the buttons on the remote the locks seem sticky. I often have to lean over and lock the passenger's lock before getting out of the car. I'm under the impression that it's the lock actuators which run about $35 each and need to be replaced since my car is an '02 and has about 115k on it. But is that true? or is there another solution?

I've seen a lot of threads asking about problems like this and all of them have come down to the actuator. I wouldn't wanna jump to conclusion on this thread though because OP said he can't even lock/unlock using his key.
