Question So... Most Bang for the $$$ Could just be a head away?... :-b

So I was saving up for a K24A2 swap and I ran across a lot of info that may have pushed me to just fix the Fd A3 with a K24A1 head and cams w/ KPro.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the A3 with some Skunk2 Stage 2 cams, ValveT and K24a1 head would give me some decent gains as well as save me some $$$. Seeing as the A1's are going for about $1,300.00

Would this be better than just swapping out my stock A3 for a A1?

I would totally love to buy an K24A4 and boost, but it looks like those arent any good for boost cuz they wont be stable over red line without internals.

Im also planning on getting a better flowing IM and TB.

A member on here (Guardian) Is running boost and a good amount of it with a k24a1 bottom end and seems to have had no issues I know of. A better platform for future builds/upgrades would be the K24a1 (about a grand) much easier to swap heads if you decide to go down that road. While a K24a4 will be a better upgrade over the k20a3, and can be had for about the same price. I would def swap a long block out rather then swaping the heads off of a k24. Im running a K24a1 with bolt ons and man its night and day over the a3.

Do the K24A1, personally I think Honda should have installed the K24A1 as the stock engine.

Your beefed up A3 still wouldnt perform as well as the k24A1 w/bolt-ons, and there is nothing that compares to the additional torque. The K24's respond better to the basic mods. Then down the road if you find a good deal on a A2 head, you can simply swap it on.

Im wondering... Since the A1 gets all its power at a lower RPM and isn't good for any hi reving goodness, then with a CAM swap will it still get all the power from the low RPM or will it change?

The K24A1 responds VERY well to the stg2 cams, it moves the power band upwards on the K24A1 to easily best the a3. The A1 head breathes as well as the A2 head, add cams and bolt-ons and they really wake up.

The k24 gets it's low end power because of the size of the motor. The crank has a longer stroke creating a longer lever for the pistons to push down on. Bigger lever = greater force. The longer stroke also brings in more air into the motor, as the pistons travels further down. more air = more power. The problem with that is a k24 will bring in the same amount of air at 6k RPM as a k20 is brining in at close to 7K. So the Head and cams won't be able to feed the larger motor higher up in the RPM band. This is why the powerband shifts down. You are pumping the same amount of air throught the motor, it just does it at a slower RPM.

So no you will not Lose the all of the low end. You however can lose some if you get bigger cams that allow for more air to flow at the High RPMs, at the cost of having to much air flowing at the lower RPMs.

Just get a k24a1. I would trade my k20a2 for a k24a1 in a heart beat. They just drive so much better.

In a heart beat! LOL, yeah there is no replacement for displacement! For a DD the K24A1 packs a lot of snot!

my favorite would be the K24a2, but the K24A1 with TSX slugs(and rods if you can) and a set of BC stage 3's would be second, then a stg2 cammed a2 comes in third. You do need a TSX 6th added to get decent mileage on the highway.

Wow... All this info is really helping me out. THANKS EVERYONE.

I guess getting cams without bottom end internals wont help and actually make things worse due to too much air flow. So I will just go ahead and K-Pro without cams and just use bolt on's to let her breath better.

Would this be a good idea?

I like the A2 as well, but $4000+ for an engine is a big HELL NO in my wallet.

If you look around local i'm sure you'll come across a deal for a K24A1... I got mine for $450 buck's. I agree with what Talon said above... the usdm ep3 should've come stock with a K24A1.
