I've heard you attatch the "top" mounting thing to an area that is acceptable for any racing harness
I forgot who posted it but there was a little diagram showing proper angles and dangerous mounting angles.

I would think the top can be mounted to the rear like to the c-pillar.
And the 2 side mounts can be mounted to the sides of the seat.

I know this is VERY vague but I have failed to see these in person :/

Generally I'd say it will be unsafe without a harness bar, and a seat with the 2 holes designed for aftermarket harnesses.
But if you're destined to keep your stock seats
I would think it's either get the harness bar and sacrifice the safety of the rear seats,
Or don't use a harness bar and sacrifice the driver's safety.

    BUT
in the diagram I saw a while back, it seemed to show that the harness bar wasn't necessary
There are a few more different acceptable mounting locations.. I'll look for the post now

Okay so the c pillar appears to be a improper mounting location haha

Mounting a harness on your stock seats is asking for a death wish. Go invest in seats before the harness. Standard seat belts is fine for stock seats

I don't get why using the stock seat can be so unsafe.
That thread doesn't say anything about not being able to use the stock seats.
I would buy some aftermarket seats but i haven't seen any that come with air bags.
    Now that's safe.

According to him all i need is the harness bar.

    also since the topic is on the table;
    RACING SEATS
Is there anything wrong with buying replica racing seats?
I see some really good deals on ebay and whats so hard with making a racing seat?
Seems like your spending more money on the name then function and form.
just a thought, correct me if im wrong.
take a look at these seats, not a bad deal and they look real nice!

the centered hole in the oem seat are narrower than your neck, so the seat belt is going to "pinch" your neck.. And the angle between a imagined vertical line from the exit holes in backrest and the mouting point in the rear area should not be higher than 20 degrees.. If it is more than 20 degrees you have higher risk of collapsing you seat and/or compressing your spine in a crash...

    schroth knows :)

I wouldnt suggest getting replica seats. Replica seats have ZERO safety testing. If your gonna go with an aftermarket seat, buy an FIA approved seat. If its good enough for a race car, its good enough for you.

Just curious, any reason why you wanna go with race seats and harnesses? If its for the appearance, you might wanna think about whats more important: having your interior looking cool/jdm....or being safe?

right page 13 shows how to do it the correct way,.. this is how im setup currently

Interior My Race/DD car :) by C. Campbell, on Flickr
and need to run the harness over a harness bar to get the proper angle, im mounted to a good bolt but it just doesint have the proper angle

The harness bar is not for mounting a harness but to get the right angle if setup like mine.

Also those reps you see on ebay will fall apart in a crash.

Replica seats arent DOT approved and/or tested
They are simply molded to a similar look and shape.
Most of them don't have reinforced backs and braces.
BUT because it's a replica doesn't mean it's not approved.

Their is a local shop that does 'replica seats'.
Their design is definitely based off of Bride, Sparco, and Recaro.
But they are full tested and stuff.
So to a sense, yes they make replica stuff, but it's kind of their own as well..
Kinda like Seibon (if I'm correct)
They do ALOT of replica stuff, but people swear by them.
(I may be wrong about accusing or saying they do replicas)

    I THINK f1 spec test's their stuff?
They are the factory/shop that makes a lot of 'nicer' replica seats
