    .colin's 2004 EP3

Few new parts showed up today. Ingalls front camber bolts and brand new OEM mud guards :)

Also a few photos from autox yesterday. Rained in the morning while I was working the track but dried out in time for my runs.

    Look what showed up today:

Finally found a Comptech Icebox! It's not in perfect condition, but that's ok - this isn't a show car. Not to mention the intake is probably 10 years old and made of plastic. I need to order a missing bolt or two, but besides that it's complete. Debating whether I should wrap everything in aluminum heat tape or not.

Reason I wanted the Comptech so bad was ease of servicing, not to mention how rare it is. I really wanted a Mugen intake, but it seemed near impossible to find replacement filters. I also wasn't too fond of the price tag. Compared to the OEM instake, this thing is super light. I'd say the entire intake weighs as much as just the lid of the OEM airbox!

Decided to install the Comptech Icebox last night. What a PITA!

First thing was I had to replace a missing brass threaded insert. I bought some replacements from McMaster as well as new screws to hold the lid on. The insert was a little too long, so I had to cut off about a 1/16" for it to fit properly.

Getting the inlet / snorkel tube in was the biggest headache. I had to remove the battery, factory ground, and a bracket or two just to get it in place. It finally went in as well as the bottom half of the icebox. I'm glad this thing was used, It's almost impossible not to scratch the snorkel maneuvering it into place! It was already scratched from the previous owners so I didn't feel as bad putting a few new scratches into it.

    Installed!

Another issue that I found was that the intake tube that goes from the filter to the OEM arm didn't fit! It is supposed to slip down into the middle of the filter, but it was too big! I was trying to use an OEM filter, not the Comptech foam filter - so that may have been the problem. I ended up cutting and sanding down the end of the tube so it fit snug into the filter. Haven't fixed this issue yet, but the coupler from the valve cover to the intake doesn't fit. It is too loose, I need to get a new clamp, or a new piece of tubing to make the connection tight.

First impressions of the intake is that it sounds about the same as my Hondata modded OEM airbox and feels about the same in terms of responsiveness / power. I actually think my stock box with the custom cold ram air inlet felt more responsive. I didn't have time to re-learn the ECU, so I'm sure that is having an affect as well.

After driving around today and putting about 100 miles on the car, I can definitely say the Icebox feels better than the OEM airbox. I also noticed a nice change in sound under WOT. It's hard to describe, almost like a pulsating induction noise - definitely is noticeable though and sounds great!

Ordered some Chinese plastic rivets from eBay to replace the OEM ones. Cost was about $12.00 for 100 pcs, OEM is about $3.00 a piece! I replaced all the ones on the front end and plan on replacing all of them throughout the car in the future.

Also ordered a few parts from Honda. New passenger side parking brake cable as well as new battery tie down hardware and various other bolts.

Thanks! Thats my whole aim, laid back, functional, and clean.

The Lenses, I did when I first got the car with RIT dye. Faded super fast. The OEM lenses blend in with the paint so I plan on just leaving them.
