Priming oil pump/pressure before first startup?

How do you guys do it? I was thinking I'd pull the plugs and crank it by hand a couple of times... how many?

I've read about Doug's method here here but I don't have an empty nitrous bottle or a compressor. Is it really a good idea to put oil on top of the pistons?

Looking to start her up tonite.

You shouldnt have any issues with the ring's/cylinder walls as long as they were not wiped clean of oil during assembly.

I have also used one of those mighty-vac's used to do brakes as a way to add oil into the main oil galley prior to starting through the oil pressure sender port.

How'd you get it to seal on the oil sender hole? It doesnt look like it comes with a 1/8" NPT fitting. How do you get it to pump rather than vacuum?

I don't think there's any oil on the cylinder walls - unless they use some type of lubricant for honing.

You are just adding oil into the oil galleys, no fitting required, I used the rubber tip to press the mighty-vac gun to provide a seal and pumped away, about 1.5 quarts of oil. This greatly reduces the time for them to fill up while the engine is first started and supply oil pressure.
