    bchaney's k24 build

This is a duplicate post from my member's ride thread - I'm posting it here so I can show it to friends/family who are unregistered users. More details here: http://www.ephatch.com/forum/showthr...-s-k24-vbp-ep3

After half a lifetime of research, planning, stockpiling, building, and adjusting, the k24 is in and running strong. I've got some loose ends to tie up before she's fully DD-able but I'm glad this project is mostly complete and I can enjoy the results of all the hours of work.

My goal was to build the ultimate DD - high quality, reliable power. This is why I went with mostly Honda/Acura parts. I want this motor to run for 300k+ and I have no doubt it will.

Thanks to Doug and the ephatch community for all the help with this build.

I will post more pictures of my ride in the future.

    My setup:

    06 Honda CR-V 2.4L block
    09 Acura TSX pistons
    06 Acura TSX rods
    04 Acura RSX-S oil pump
03 Acura RSX-S water pump and oil cooler
    04 Acura RSX-S crank pulley

02 Acura RSX-S cylinder head with dual valve springs
    06 Acura TSX cams

    03 Honda Accord transmission internals
    06 Honda Civic Si LSD
    04 Acura RSX-S flywheel
    Competition stage 2 clutch

    Injen 3" CAI
06 Honda Civic Si intake manifold
    09 Acura RDX injectors
Hybrid Racing fuel rail with stock pulse damper
    SSR replica 4-2-1 header
    Vibrant high-flow spun metallic cat
    Thermal 3" exhaust

Avid Racing motor mounts - 62a rear and tranny, 75a passenger side
Energy Suspension front motor mount insert

    Tuned by Evans Tuning

Mostly for fuel economy - I cruise at a much lower RPM on the highway.

yeah they are a lot lower geared.

I remember bringing this up a long time ago for the boost heads but, did it fit perfect? did you use basically an entire accord trans? or just the guts

You need to swap the guts into a k20 trans case - the k24 case will not mount to the EP chassis. I needed a different thickness mainshaft shim but other than that everything fit well.

I just swapped over the assembled mainshaft and countershaft, final drive, shifter forks, reverse idler gear, and reverse fork. You also need to swap over the countershaft bearing - the Accord countershaft is a slightly larger diameter than the EP shaft in the area that contacts the bearing.

Hey dude i was just wondering if you have to use a rsx type s oil pump and water pump on all TSX or k24 swap, or if that is a preferance thing. Or, lol one more or, is it because its a frank build not just a k24a2. Cuz im about to put one in my hatch but wanna make sure i got all the right parts.

The TypeS oil pump is not necessary. There are issues with cavitation in the pumps with balance shafts (k20a3, k24) at higher RPMs. I got the TypeS oil pump because I was going to get a new one anyway so it made sense to upgrade. The downside of this pump is some extra vibration because it doesn't have the counterweighted balance shafts.

The TypeS water pump is also not necessary. I chose this pump because it's needed to add the TypeS oil cooler.

You can add the typeS oil cooler to any Kseries and NOT have to swap in the a2 pump and passageway, A simple fitting for the coolant source(a oil fitting from a S2k) and a single hole drilled and tapped into the bottom of the coolant passageway near the Tstat(this is where the typeS coolant is returned, the coolant is routed through the typeS water pump, it never contacts the impellor). Add a few feet of hose and a brabed fitting and the actual cooler.
