    shift knob help

I'm still running the stock knob. It's getting old and faded. It's time for a new one. I've listed a few that I'm interested in, and want your guys opinion. My only big concern is that I know some people when switching knobs, sometimes some of the shifter metal is exposed from boot to knob. This is a big no no for me. Now , I know the jdm shift boot solves this issue, but I found this adaptor on ebay that supposedly solves the gap. For 12 bucks its worth a shot. Has anyone ever tried something like this? Maybe even from this seller?

Now onto the knobs that I've chosen . Since its just a knob; being a knock off or not doesn't concern me. I'm not going to spend 100 bucks or so for an authentic mugen knob or things of that sort. The guys who have seen my car know that my setup is simple and clean. Not much flash at all, just a simple ctr style conversion. I would like to keep that theme going. So the knobs that I have chosen I think will compliment my cars overall look. Any comments and suggestions are more than welcome. I want critism both good or bad from all you guys. Please share ur experience with any aftermarket knobs, especially if ur shifter medal was exposed after install, and pics of ur guys knobs too, if they are similar to the ones I'm looking at. So please no pics of crazy neon knobs, or 8 balls, or skulls. Thanks in advance

I wouldn't waste money on small dinky adapter, I just fliped my shift boot piece like this DIY and put on a replica type r ebay shift knob.

cheap and easy fix and it's free
BTW the shift knob I got off ebay was $15-ish shipped and I think it looks good.

The Chrome doesn't bother me. But by tucking it away inside doesn't it give more of a chance of exposure of the actual shifter ? Can u snap some pics?

You do see a very smallll amount of the shifter i'd say like the width of my pinky. I'd need to re install the shift and re flip the boot for the picks as I just put my stock shifter back on while it was getting colder because my shift knob would freeze my hands haha...
I'll try and get some picks for tomorrow. If not i'll get them up by the weekend

I am not a fan of Honda shift knobs or Honda based shift knobs, they are simply to small for my tastes. All of my cars run the Monsterknob black resin ball shifter. Ideal size and the material is not affected by temperature. In direct sunlight in 100 plus degree heat it never gets more than slightly warm to the touch. I combined this bad boy with the small aluminum collar that came with an Ebay metal knob that was gifted to me. Metal and sunlight=bad.

An old picture to show the end result.

Okay so I got bored and did the shift knob and midnight for some reason lol.

Basically all you have to do is pull off the silver piece and flip it inside out like in these pics, it's very easy to take it off and take a little bit of wiggling to get it on inside out. I used a flat head screw driver to make it a bit easier to fit it back on.

And when you put it back on

If it isn't flush enough for your taste I'm sure you can put a small rubber washer on the inside to hold the boot up a bit higher instead of wasting $10 on the piece you were mentioning before.

    Hope this helps

    Merry Christmas

Dude thats sweet! How easy does the center console piece come off? And if u kept the original chrome piece would it sit flush and cover the whole shifter?

It is the generic Vision branded shift knobs. They are all metal ball shifters in various colors and 5/6 speed variations. They run from $12-$20 ish. My brother got it for me originally but Texas summers and metal shift knobs will tattoo an H pattern on your palm like nobodys business.

I got my knob off ebay for 10 plus shipping which was cheap... and it looks fun with the silver piece sticking up the regular way because it's doesn't really sit properly it kinda just hangs there. Really easy to install all u need s a monkey wrench to twist it so the shift knob sits flush on the small little washer thingy piece they give you.

That collar piece is very nice, I had the gunmetal type r type and that was my problem, it didnt sit all the way down and the boot was loose. Looked kinda silly.

i have a buddyclub type b shift knob and i really like it, tried a weighted blox ball shifter, stock ep, rsx, s2000 , and buddy club type a and the b is really good feeling and natural, it was designed by them for our cars as well, the plastic up top does not get hot in the south Florida sun, after having a greddy knob on my last car i will stick to delrin/plastic knobs from now on,

So after must deliberation I decided to go the cheap what route. I chose this because of price and it compliments my ctr black / red interior. I test fitted on my rsx but again it wont stay flush with the boot. Gona figure a way around this on the ep3
