Looking forward to this.thinking of goin the same route
Since my steering wheel started to wear, I decided to wrap it with alcantara. I searched the web and it seems like nobody uses it with stock steering wheel. I really had a hard time with choosing the right color and finally decided on black alcantara to match it with airbag. I`ll post pictures when it`s done.
Post some pictures if you have it.

The only downside i hear about suede is unless u wear gloves. It wears out considerably faster than leather.
First of all, Alcantara and suede are different things. They almost look the same but there are differences in quality, maintenance, durability and usability. To be more specific.
Suede:___________________Alacantara:
Leather___________________Fabric
Cheap____________________Expensive
0________________________Much more Durable
Hard to maintenance________Easier Maintenance
Alcantara especially designed for high class interior. There are also imitation Alcantaras, which are used for wide areas (interior roof) to keep the cost low. You really have to know who wraps it, because even if you have the real alcantara, it really requires knowledge and skills for the material. My shop it is best around here, they are specialized on wrapping Porsche, Bmw, Mercedes leathers. We will see how it turns it.

How much $ are they wrapping it for?
They are not located in USA. I came here to visit my homecountry (Turkey) for Christmas, So I removed my steering wheel and brought it with me. With taxes and everything I paid $180.
Labor in here is way cheaper than USA.
OEM S2000 steering wheel wrapped in alcantara --> http://goo.gl/irZHd
^^^ I was thinking about putting red stripe, but I heard that it really catches your eye and distracts you while you are driving. People who have done that bring it back to shop to remove it and re-wrap it. Instead of paying double, I prefer to listen advice.
i bought a spare oem wheel from someone a few years back and i wanted to do this so bad...
wish i still had my spare!
be jealous :P
Try your local junk yards. Maybe you find one for cheap.
Could this be done on a aftermarket steering wheel? I am very interested in doing this!! Take my steering wheel to turkey please!!! Lol
