Looking to purchase compustar but my power lock doesn't work

I'm looking to purchase a Compustar auto starter/alarm but my power locks aren't working. Do I need to replace my actuators before installing the Compustar?

If you want the locks to work with the new system then yes. When you hit the lock button does the car make any noise at all?

It honk's if I push it twice (after manual lock). My remote only works for my hatch lock right now

Yes you would need to replace the actuators first the way an alarm system works is it sends a negative trigger to the lock wire on the car so the actuators need to be working first.

You don't have to fix the actuators for the alarm portion to work. The system will still arm and disarm the car, it just won't lock and unlock the car. Meaning if you hit the button, the system arms, if someone opens your door(which is still unlocked unless you locked it manually) the alarm will sound.

But yes if your hatch and horn are still working via the remote, then your door lock actuators are bad.

Ok cool, thanks for the help guys, I'll probably fix my power locks before getting a compustar. Manual lock is getting really annoying especially in winter after car washes =S

I'm just wondering why are you going with a compustar alarm why not one made by DEI like a viper or Clifford

Lock actuators are super easy to replace. You can do both yourself for under 40 bucks. I bought mine on eBay for $13 shipped. Even an OEM on online is $30 each. Good luck.

I've had my compustar for 7 years and not one problem with it. Looking at getting the new model.

No specific reason, there is a local shop here with awesome reviews and usually have deals for compustar remotes.

I saw the ebay link for $13, but unfortunately they don't ship to Canada.

Nice, I'm debating between the P2W901-SS and the 2W9000-SS, I've been comparing the specs and they both look the same, only difference is the pro series and the size of the remote?
