How to: Suede Headliner/ door insert panels

Hey hatchers, I have the material on order and as soon as it gets here I will be knocking out this project along with painting my A/B pillars black to match. I will be learning as I go, but I will get LOTS of pictures along the way. I'll try to get "before" pics up soon so you can see. Nothing's wrong with the headliner but I want to change the look a bit and it's something I've wanted to do for a while.

Here's a link to the fabric I got:

    https://www.fabric.com/buy/0274452/z...ded-felt-black

I will take pictures as soon as it arrives and update this page. It was the best priced upholstery suede I could find. I also got a can of 3M 77 adhesive spray (reccomended on just about every DIY I read).

Thanks for reading, updates coming soon!

I am glued for this one man!, I hope you wouldnt mind showing me when its done.

I am doing another headliner in my 910 right now in that old sports car style micro-perforated vinyl, I think I want to use it on the EP too.

So I got started last night and completely forgot totake pictures! I'm sorry but I can prob get some pics tonight before i re-install. The hardest part so far has been getting the Sun Roof cover off. I had to take the glass out and then un screw the sliders. The front ones are easy but the rear ones you have to do it without seeing (all done by touch with very little room. Here's a picture of the headliner nearly done:

    And the sunroof cover re-installed:

The material isn't traditional suede but for the price it's awesome. Not as much stretch as I would have liked but it's something called "micro suede" and it's blended to keep cost down, perfect for upholstery.

Micro suede is probably a better option than real suede. I've done some interior work on a couple dubs and suede is a pain in the ass. Its heavier, and not much give to it. Thicker as well. Looks fantastic, but its difficult to work and will tend to sag on larger surfaces like headliners.

Can't stress this enough, it's a 2-person job. Getting the sunroof cover off and getting the headliner back in (and lined up) are the two hardest parts.
