2005 Civic Si noise when turning

Hi I'm new to the forums and soon to be a new owner of a ep3. I'm interested in a 2005 civic si from a private seller. The seller tells me everything works fine but when you turn it makes a noise. He assures me its just the break pads but I think that's bunch of crap. What could be causing this noise and what is the potential cost in fixing it. The car has a 100,000 miles on it and he's asking 5 grand for it. I have yet to test drive the car and just want to get a good idea of what it could be before I drive a hour to see it. Thanks in advance for the help.

I dont know, but for that price if thats the only thing wrong I would have bought it already.

Its likely to be either the tie rod ends, ball joints, strut bushings, or compliance bushings, all of which are fairly cheap to fix.

If it's making noise while turning it could also be the steering rack. So long as the damage isnt excessive, the min you would have to do is re-lube the rack

Any clue if the suspension has been modified or what the noise sounds like? Is it only at certain speeds - forward and backwards?

I had a creaking sound when I lowered my car too much. I raised it a bit and it went away.

Car is stock. I will test drive it today at noon so I will post and report back on what it sounds like and exactly where its coming from. thanks for the help guys I appreciate it. Im pretty much at my limit at 5000 so I cant afford to buy a car with any problems costing over 300.00 even.

Thats unfortunate. They all whine in reverse, I am pretty sure they do that brand new cause the reverse is straight cut, of course they dont do it loudly....

How beat to shit was it?

Missing side lights. The seal around windshield was missing. Couple dents overall wasn't a good experience as he lied about the condition of the car. The place we went to was basically a used car lot of abused lancers acuras and civics at a guys house occupied by a group of middle easterners not to be racist.

What a douche bag, well good luck in your searches man. You should definitely be able to find an ep3 for that price in good condition, soudns like his was closer to like $3200 at most.

Looking at a 2001 with one owner and 121,000. The transmission was replaced 7,000 ago. Test drove it and couldn't see myself getting anything else. 5900 out the door. I can get a 6 month bumper to bumper warranty for 500 and the later if I want a 4 year unlimited miles for 1500 think it's worth it?

TLDR: I love the si and am thinking about a wArranty

We didnt get the ep3 in 2001, actually I didnt think we got any si in 2001. I dont know though. If it is an 01 Si EM1, then $5900 is too much money.
