What are City Lights?

I've seen these things for sale online, with a bulb attached to a metal ring and, if I remember correctly, a pair of wires.

What are they for -- just exta looks, or can they serve as daytime lights? How are they installed?

they more or less just illuminate the housing for your headlights with whatever color you buy them in, they dont throw off much light if any on the actual roadways itself, its just more for looks --joe :)

I take it they could be connected to any 12V circuit?

To me, this is the kind of light that manufacturers SHOULD be using when they talk about "daytime running lights." Low wattage = low power drain, and they're still visible to other drivers.

Now to find the circuit that would enable such a function.......
