    clearing codes automatically?

    i am getting a p1457 intermittent CEL on my 04 ep3

The light will stay on for a few drive cycles then turn off but the code is still present when I check it with the scanner.

If the light is off doesnt that mean the code is gone?

Not always, no. You really need to clear some codes with a scanner to fully remove them. I have no idea which are that way and which truly go away when the light goes off, though. I have a Scangauge II mounted in my cluster that can clear a code in less than 15 secs, which was very helpful when my cat died until I was able to replace it. That's a good answer if you have to often clear pesky codes.

IIRC you can reset your CEL by disconnecting your battery.
