should locktight be put on the bolts before install?...i assume that is why they are so hard to remove...

I doubt you'll need locktight. That area doesn't get enough vibration to make it loose. I was hard to remove the bolts? It wasn't that hard for me. With the right tools, its easy.Originally Posted by Guanobucks
Ahhhhh was a big fukn headache this install was. Busted up my knuckles, lost a metal insert and can't find it. A big help was removing the cigarette lighter cover to find a dropped bushing. Just squeeze and yank. I haven't drove the car yet to find out if I think it was worth it. It was a good thing I found this post because if not I would have put them on the way it says on K-Series. I used a screwdriver to hold the bushing in place while I got the bolt through. It's not a hard job its just working in tight places is a bitch.
quick question, may be a stupid one....when removing the four bolts are there nuts underneath or are the bolts threaded into something. thanks in advance
yupp no nuts under... its just bolts then... you might want to be prepared to catch the rubber (stock) bushings that might fall into the shifter console
first two bolts are ok... but after two is a pain...
its easier to go from bottom two to top two ... just my two cents.
yea i think the bottom two bolts are a biyatch!
But like i've always said, alum bushes are my #1 fav mod of all time! :)
I did this today. One thing I found it's easier to pull the rubber bushings out with some needle nose pliers. I took a chunk out of one but I'm never putting the stock ones back it so it don't matter.
Another thing I found when removing the metal sleeves is it's easier not to lose them if you thread a string through, grab both ends of the string and push the bushing through with a screwdriver or something. This keeps the bushing on the string and keeps it from falling.
I found this mod to be worth $20 but not worth anything more.
Of course if I had to choose between rubber and metal bushing I choose metal
Do you still need the metal bushings when using a buddy club short shifter? If not which would you recommend the bushings or the SS? or both?
Just wondered if anyone has ordered these lately?
The website shows out of stock, and it looks like the last update was in '06 sometime?!
