    Motor Stamping A2orA3?

I was looking through my manual today and i happened upon "id locations" and it noted that the motor type stamping IE "K20A3" should be stamped on the block to the right of the intake manafold (looking into the engine bay from the front)

Now here is my delemia, there is some occidation on this spot, but what i can read is the Number "2". There is obviously some other letters before it, but occidation has rendered it unreadable at the moment.

I plan to take off my intake so that i can reach the stamping more easily. But for now it has my curiousity peaked, Could an A2 run off an A3 computer and thus feel and operate like an A3?

My car has come from shady origins, and as esmith13 aka Eric pointed out i do have an RSX intake manafold cover. My car also is notibly louder than other EP3s ive hung out with.

At a recent meet it was thought to be pully noise but removal and inspection of all pullys came up empty, im still curious.

people dont mistakenly put in an A2 from the plant. About your RSX manifold cover.. that is an option you can purchase at the dealership. Not sure what numbers you are looking at.. but you definately dont have an A2... unless you bought it used and someone neglected to mention they did an A2 swap (Highly unlikely) Easy way to find out.. Race an RSX type S and if you win.. maybe you do have a swap

Not talkin bout mistakes, but, the car was purchased with a salvage title, the guy who ran the salvage operation had 3 or 4 RSX type-S parts cars there in his garage. My thought was that the engine in mine craped out and he swapped one of the motors from his RSXs into the Civic so that he had a sellable car.

As for the race, i dont beleave that even if it has the A2 motor in it, that it has the A2 computer.

Which is why one of my questions is can an A2 run when controled by an A3 computer?

That would be the greatest mistake they ever made (atleast in your favor)!

Go race an EP or base RSX... you walk 'em you got an A2.

Race a TypeS... you hang, you got an A2

Is your tranny a 5spd or 6 spd? Does the A3 5spd mount to an A2?

Yes, the A2 can run off the A3 ECU and vice-versa.

wouldn't a k20a2 running on an a3 ecu and tranny be a bit slower than a type s. but it should still beat other eps and the base rsx. that would be nice. like when i ordered my tranny i was hoping they would mess up and send a type r tranny with the lsd, but they didn't. sorry people, you think they could mess up every once in a while. :)

Maybe what you are reading is K20A3 and you are only seeing the 2 of K20? :angelm:

not enough light to get a pic of the stamp, and not enough time to pull peices off to get close enough to clean off the marking, i have things to do today, but tommrow ill pull stuff off and clean the marking.

Pic of my engine bay from an EP meet in lancaster(i was pointing to where my amp wire went through, not the marking)

your valve cover looks to say "honda" on it i dont think the type s says that. unless he went total sleeper and swapped an a3 valve cover, ran a a3 ecu (defeating the purpose of the swap) and left you with a 5 speed still.... i guess its possible but probable i think not. but hey maybe you came across something. :D

the type S valve cover says honda on it. just has a larger black spark plug cover that covers it up and has the Acura symbol on it.

The A2 has Honda Motor Co. stamped on the valve cover where ours just say Honda I think. And I know the throttle cable is ran differently from what I remember but I forget how?
