The bearing at the top of this pic above the gears sets into a groove below the bolt we are talking about. I think it is important to the bearing life. I don't remember if it is the left or right gear set that we are talking about but it is one of them.

prolly should mention that unless they have a press they will need to take the diff to a shop, so this wont be a one day deal more than likely...just a thought...

"You will need to pull the bearing and speedo gear and ring gear off the differential, but you need a press ( i took mine to a local shop it took about 20 minutes to pull the bearing and gear and put on new bearings and the speedo gear) And yes get new bearings, there about 40 bux a piece at napa and they are not sealed as they appear, thats just a dust guard."

There can be but i work for a company that does tolerancing for a living so i checked everything at work and my lsd was the same size as the oem diff so with a couple other calculations i was able to see that it didnt need shimmed. some might, you just need to take the hight of the lsd, the bearing seats and all measure it all up and do the same to the lsd and if they dont match up buy the shim that adds the right height

Oh I missed that. We had alot trouble getting it to snap into place. We had to pull the casing off a couple times to get it to snap in when putting the casing back on.

i ended up leaving the plug lose, putting the tranny in, pulling the plug off, idleing the engine in 1st, and it snapped right in so i re installed the plug
